I'd try and space the rad off from the engine a bit, and fuck the grill off. The rad you've got on is good and at the end of the day it's a track day toy it can't all look classic.

Either that or as Tom says side mount rad with some air ducting?
Or if you really want a grille could it be custom rad job?

My intercooler is as close as that and it has worn through to bottom brace where the engine rubs. I'd definitely look at getting more clearance some how.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I have a big side rad I could use, but I'm trying to gain preformance, hence no side fan, electric water pump and longer runners. But I don't want to ruin the look of the car.

I think I'm just going to buy a 2 piece carbon front, and put it all back to normal and forget the longer runners and twin injector setup. It would also allow me to fit some overider mk1 bumpers.

I had the same issue, and just about managed it with a slim cinq rad
http://jcrae.smugmug.com/keyword/barratt/i-MwBzF66

but when i went turbo and had the beef up the rad, i had to cut all the roundnose front away and it looked a mess.

I'm now in the process of changing to clubman front and there is miles of room

Silly idea time.

Is it essential that the long runners are straight ?

ie would a smooth 90deg bend downwards really hurt ? keeping within the bonnet line ?
that would allow you length, without poking through the bonnet.

Then either do side mount rad, or mount a rad in the boot area ?

Or keep the hole in the bonnet. And have a rad made to fully blend in with the hole in the front of the car, rather than just getting a square/rectangular rad that doesnt fit ?

As for the turbo option....I'd always say yes.

Heads, 90deg bend, large plenum, single TB and boost it.

And the custom rad lol.

Ok option 3 it is. Going clubman. For a couple of reasons. Mainly to keep everything hidden, but also when I change back to turbo (will you know I will) I will have more space. Also gives me the option to venture to the dark side should I have the balls to go none a series.

I'm a really big clubby fan anyway and my favourite mini as always been MarkGT's Yukon Clubby. So along with the new look am going Tweed Grey, not to be copy cat.

Thinking of swapping my force racing outers to 3" and stepping up from 5.5 - 6.5 wide, and then running wider arches. Maybe group 2 wide or even miglia arches.

But leaning more to miglia

Managed to find this

Total runner length from the valve to trumpet

As you see it's all a comprise for peak torque, but 300mm gives the best average for my 6-8k power band.

What I have found that (on a flowbench at least) is that there are some gains when you bend it downwards as it shifts the flow up in the port a bit so it could be beneficial.

for a 4th harmonic you could go down to 232mm, but 298mm would be a tad better.

5th and 6th harmonic are 188 and 158mm lower trq, after that the trq starts to suffer a lot but it is a lot easier to fit.

These values are based on pipemax for a 1310 race cammed 5 port a series, and tend to be quite near to optimum.

Keeping things straight does make it a lot more predictable but look at any modern engine bay and how they fold stuff in. For dry flow (not a wet manifold) you can get away with quite a bit .
One option could be the tuned runner to an airbox. Pretty much what every oem does as 3rd harmonic intakes are hard to package. Look at the V10 M5 . 90 degree snorkels in an airbox.

Just done a quick mock up on my clubby. 300mm seems to fit no problem with another 50mm before the grill.

Going clubman is costing a lot more than I thought. Can believe the price and difficulty to get a pair of these new.

Have you had a look at Spiyda's LED stuff?

https://www.spiyda.com/magento/index.php/le...assic-mini.html

Andy has them on his clubby and they are quite a bit lighter than the standard stuff.

Any body spot any problems with this water setup? I was thinking of welding a bleed on top of the radiator back to the swirl header.

Pipe from electric water pump to blanking plate is missing obviously.

If the water tank had the outlet on the side, the fact the pipe runs uphill from rad to header would negate any need for a bleed on the radiator itself.
