Cheers chaps.

Here's the final engine bay. Hopefully! Just need a few hoses for the breather.

Looks like a tight fit in the minus! Clean install though, looks spot on.

Cheers guys. It looks good from a distance but up close its all a bit thrown together. Should improve over time.

I'm not sure on rollers. Hoping to get it finished up in next few weeks. I'll be taking it to Stuart Gurr (vmaxx scart). Not sure when probably February some time. Got a track day in a different car that needs a bit of prep at the end of Jan so that'll take priority now.

Very nice work! Good to see that the inter-dry-deck-electric-waterpump idea is catching on *wink*

Upon further cleaning up the under bonnet appearance have you considered fitting an under wing oil catch tank, such as the ones Swiftune, Med and Owens are selling?

Also, can't you get rid of the white plastic canister that appears to be functioning as a coolant overflow bottle to clean up things further?

Again job well done, engine looks amazing...look forward to reading the RR results!

Jonny what have you painted your Rocker Cover with? I tried to get a similair look with Wrinkle finish but it came out looking utter shite.

I didn't realise it was a thing to catch onto hahaha, i just though it would be easier space wise on that side when i mocked it up :). I hadn't seen a few others doing it then. It does make sense but is an eye sore.

I didn't want to part with amount of cash swiftune etc want for one. So its just a cheap ebay one, does the same job.

The white canister is an expansion tank. It's one the best improvements i made to help with cooling. Keeps every drop of air out the cooling system.

I plan to move it and the oil catch can into the inner wing but want to make sure its all ok first. Make sure the catch can doesn't fill up on track to quick etc. Although it does make sense to have them where its easy to access.

Mike this is the stuff you want, nothing else comes close quality wise.

Follow the instructions and it comes out good, if you use a bit of heat on it reduces the wrinkle height. Has good coverage from a can to, ive done two rocker covers, thermostat housing and a few brackets still got 1/3 of a can left.

Yep, and is one thing that a lot of Late Mini owners never understand. The Late cars were fitted with an expansion tank under the passenger side wing over the top of the damper mount. You are supposed to brim the coolant level in the radiator and put the cap back on. Any coolant that is then ejected into the expansion tank when the engine is hot, is then also sucked back in when the engine cools down.*Clapping* However, most Mini owners do what the Haynes book says, or, what they always use to do, and fill the rad until the wire hoop is covered, never mind that the original rads on those cars never had this loop, after market ones always do*Clapping*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Theres never any air in there. Thats the point.

engine heats up > water inside expands > excess comes out of cap into tank.

engine cools > water contracts creating vacuum > water is sucked in from tank (instead of air in the case of no tank.)

Yes okey but the tank i had just had an inlet. No vent. The water that goes into it while expanding takes up place so the air in there needs to go somwhere right? Or is it meant to have some pressure on it.

Also do your boost hoses ever collapse under vacuum?

The tank itself is vented, usually a vented cap.

Not found out yet. I think they will be fine considering the lengths some OE hoses are.

I might change a few to pipe rather than hose to make a bit more room.

Just trying to bed rings in at the moment. Haven't given it much. Running a safe map Simon kindly gave me. Feels good though.

Need to do some more miles then off to the dyno.

Gears are very noisey lol.
