Bit of an update after a long break.

Car has been running perfectly for the last couple of years. No real issues at all. So the only sane thing to do is to pull it apart for upgrades.

Actuator bracket made for new turbo.

Oil feed and drain fitted to homemade flanges.

All going onto a long manifold made out of a chopped about stainless LCB.

Still lots to do. But pleased to be finally getting some time to play again.

golly .nice job gary . always wanted to try one of those turbo's for high boost testing .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

It'll be interesting. I've not used less than 20psi for the last 4 years or so. I love the GT17, and this is a straight swap, so I can always go back if it's not as good.

Only one way to find out. It's -8 teflon just because I had the fittings and hose left over.

Robert, I'll definitely do that once it's been on the rollers. Give me a few years to get to that point *oh well*

Hi I've done this setup on my mini more than 10 years ago and used the breather as an oil drain for the turbo. Unfortunately the oil will drop on the primary drop gear which will sort of flood dose little holes on the primary gear, causing the oil to pass from the bushes and leaking into the clutch especially on idle

Hmmm. I assumed this would be fine considering the amount of oil already flinging around the drop gears.

The reasoning might be that at any speed the primary gear will be throwing oil away from those little holes but, at idle, there will be little centrifugal/centripetal force to fling it away (none at all with the clutch depressed) so anything directed in that area could flow into the little holes instead of out.

But I'm sure a suitable baffle/deflector could be mounted inside the housing to direct the return away from the primary gear.

Just my thoughts.

Very Timely discussion...

I was about to pull my engine apart looking for a failed seal or something.
Little drips of oil all over my garage floor coming out of the drain hole of the flywheel housing.

Of course, it might be something more sinister, but the turbo Oil returning to the breather seems likely now.
Problem is where to redirect it to test - Dizzy hole is in use for the second trigger for the MS2.

I really do not want to strip the whole side of the engine bay out if I can avoid it.

After I've found that using the breather as an oil drain was causing the oil leak in the clutch housing I simply used the fuel pump hole as the oil drain . Even so if you make a sort of baffle as mentioned by Rod S your introducing almost boiling oil in the drop gear partition and its not the best thing for the drop gears.

lowestoft suffolk

Ive seen a few sprints n chopped minis where the filler hole on the rocker cover is blanked off for clearance issues and they use the breather hole as a filler? How is it thats ok? Or is it purely cos its a hot return thats the problem?

Because you don't generally fill your engine with oil when it's running...
