I will try get one mocked up out of copper pipe in 19mm.

Yeah hopefully this weekend lee.

Took the gearbox apart last night for a good clean but when removing the main shaft i noticed to small ball bearings in the bottom of the box.

Guessing these are what go inside the 3/4th syncro hub?

If they are both the same size, most likely yes, or the 1st/2nd hub.
Taking the mainshaft in/out can often accidentally move the outer ring of the hub(s) too far and eject the balls (and often the springs too).
If this has happened, the third one will most likely be somewhere in a dark corner of your garage never to be seen again.....

I will asses the damage after work, i didn't see nothing fly away so hopefully they are still in the hub!

Is it just a case of sliding the hub off and seating the spring and ball while pushing the hub back over to fit them back in?

It's confusing me how they work unless anyone has a photo to explain?

Thanks

Nick, have a look in my build at the oil drian.
Used the standard gt1752 drain (cut down) with a piece of silicone hose and a dsn oil return.

Three grooves in the outer hub ring, the balls press up into them, centre one neutral, outer ones 3/4 (or 1/2) so when the outer sleeve is moved by the selector it "clicks" into 3/neutral/4 position.

The difficulty putting it back together is you need three (maybe four) hands to hold all three balls down against their springs whilst sliding the outer hub ring over.

I have a suitable meckalor clamp (like a piston ring compressor), previously I used a large jubilee clp or even a wide cable tie. (trouble with both is they have a bit sticking out the edge so don't cover the balls all the time).

Works fine Nick, you need to use a oil resistant silicone hose though.

Right got the little ball bearings in fine first time! My new problem is when I drift the roller bearings into the case with the shaft in place. I try to get the circlip in bit the bearing will not go any further in!

I got the circlip in place once but noticed the centre roller bearing was being pushed out slightly which stopped me bring able to fit the retainer spacer thingy.

Very fed up!
