Well this MegaTunix is seriously cool.

It has a lot more feautures than TunerStudio and uses tabs for accessing all the menus so is much easier to use.

It's got the realtime display backsame as Megatune used to have but better,

The only downside is having to create your own gauge display as there is no default one suitable for the siamese code but once I got the hang of it, it didn't take too long

Look closely and you'll see I can even have the injection advance gauges the logical way around with advance on the left :)

There are a couple of bugs in it - as you can see a couple of the gauges aren't working - either a bug or I've done something stupid but the author is looking into it already.

(I can break anything.....).

Whilst I was on the Extra forum posting the problem I did spot another familiar name as browsing the MegaTunix section........

That may have been me :$

I like the look of Megatunix. I'll get my IT team to do a full review of it :)

Well it was certainly someone by the name of "PaulS" (but no space) :)

Your IT team will find the only time consuming bit is constructing a "dashboard" with the dials/gauges we need, none of the default ones are any use.

Having said that, the first gauge took me ages but once I'd figured out the software (no instructions or help files) the first took an hour, the second 10 minutes and the rest less than 2 minutes. Same with the dashboard, most of the time lost was because I couldn't get the Injector timing gauges to read although most of the rest did but I had a mindset on "fixing" those two gauges.

There do seem to be a few glitches reading the realtime data on some of the features that only we will use (ie, Injector timing) but the author was very quick to respond to me and, although one issue was my mistake because a field has a different name in MegaTunix compared to TS, I'm sure the other issues will be resolved or turn out to be my fault too......

It looks like it was originally written for Linux (or Unix?) but has been cross ported - you have to load an emulator first.

But apart from a few glitches on some of the tables the rest looks really good - much better than the "T word" product that my resident psychoanalyst has told me I musn't mention any more.....

Not much to show, but just to show I am actually moving forwards...

Wiring for the ECU

With hindsight, the internal connectors in the engine bay are OTT..... the cable runs are so short they could have all been in one piece.

But it will making experimenting with multiple injectors a lot easier.

Just need to put the cables in for the widebands and a mounting plate for the contollers, then it can all go in the car... :)

Finally finished on the inside...

Well, the ECU finished,

Just now have to add the three wideband controllers (one small, two medium size), one of Jean's IO-x boards (which I have yet to order), the traction control module (which I have yet to build) and the Thatcham Cat 1 alarm/imobiliser wiring......

I've ordered one of these,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Yes, I know it's eBay crap, but it will hide all of the electronics and wiring and may even allow me to fit a decent CD player (or ICE according to the Chavs...).

I remember now I've looked again....

That was a hell of a lot of modification you had to do *happy*

I'll find out tommorow, it's been dispatched apparently.

Then I guess I'll be off to the local boatyard for a large tin of fibreglass resin :)

Well the dash won't be arriving today as the tosser hasn't actually sent it.

He states on the listing "more than 10 available". I ordered on Monday.

He updates the Order Panel on Wednesday as "dispatched, 48hr courier"

This morning I get an email "Hi, am very sorry about the wait but i sold 4 dashes in one day including yours and i can only make 1 a day but your is all ready and booked out now with city link for pick up friday."

Why do people feel the need to lie on eBay ???

Most of the wiring now in

The coil of wire at the top and the knotted red tube are for the boost control PWM valve, not sure where to mount it yet...

Inside,

Because the tosser who didn't actually have the dashboard he said he had 10 of, hasn't actually sent it, I can't work out where to mount the wideband controllers and displays plus all the other gauges yet.

Heater is going to be a problem too.....

Also, need some thoughts on the fuel pump inertia switch (currently lying on top of the MS2, see other post).

Rod the build is looking good. I know the feeling of trying to get everything behind the dash so that it servicable.

Did the displays for the techedge take much building? I have a old techedge that i want to use and would like the display. But there is a massive price difference in ready built and kits!

I built the LD02s, now called DIYLD2_R (or _G)

They were quite tricky compared to say a Megasquirt or even compared to the DIY 2Y* controllers but that was mainly because the PCB is really small and components have to be soldered both sides and some are SMD.

But I would do it again - they use real serial data from the controllers so no voltage offsets from crap 0-5V outputs and are very fast to respond.

The only issue I has was the initial firmware on the CPU (yes, the display actually uses a CPU as it reads serial data) needed its firmware updating and the supplied RS232 serial chips were eratic so I changed them for better ones.

I was going to buy a aux box too use with my lm1 but realised that my Tech edge will do the job. It has a memory so will be able to log runs with it without the laptop in the car.

It sounds a bit to advanced for my soldering skills I reckon. Will have to start saving!

Yes, my 2Y* controllers have the built in memory - I haven't actually tried it yet but the specification is good.

As for the soldering on the displays, I've just been as honest as I can .....

It's perfectly do-able but, in Haynes language, it's a 4 spanner job, not a 1 spanner job.

EDIT......

I've just read the specification of the new version of the DIY display,

"Because LD2B uses some surface mount components, it comes as a partially built kit and requires minimal soldering. Parts that are soldered include the LEDs and photo-transistor, buttons and some sockets, etc. "

In other words, unlike the earlier version (LD02) that I built, on the "B" version they have now done all the tricky bits for you.......

49 Aus$ for the kit or 140 Aus$ assembled..... (£30 vs £85)

Mmmmm - yes, I think I understand, but then again maybe not.

4 spanner jobs I can do, but 4 diodes or whatever you use these days is WAAAY beyond me.

Cant wait to see/hear this running.

First, just for david, I thought I had posted this the other day but obviously something went wrong....

And as for the dashboard....

I'm not surprised....

It eventually turned up today, I nearly got suffocated from uncured resin when I openned it, but

Shape of one end, note square bottom corner

Shape of the other end, note rounded bottom corner

And the nice straight line between them......

No wonder you had to modify yours so much and I will have to do the same.

Off to the yacht chandlers this weekend and once I've cut/shut it I'll take a mould of the finished version that actually fits.

It's a shame it's so badly built, if only it fitted right it would be ideal

But one end is OK

And the other end crap

Ive got the same dash and it seemed to fit ok. *oh well* Is the main problem the the gap or the shape?
