I don’t know, I couldn’t face taking the engine out this afternoon.

I will have to get it out, ball ache. The car was smoking a bit so I guess there is more going on than the tooth...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Not that know of Robert. The old girl was smoking so I think it’s engine out time and find out what’s missing bits and why it’s smoking so bad.

I recon it could be a dog tooth.

Hi all, so the motor started smoking. I have completed a compression test and compared it to the results last year, I would love to know where to go from here.
Both were cold readings. I was starting to think about pulling the motor, maybe the rings didn’t seal when it was build fresh last year. It’s done about 1500 miles including a track day. Should I do anymore testing before I start pulling the motor?

May2017. May 2018 / oiled
11.9 11.4/12.0
11.2 10.95/11.4
10.4 10.5/11.0
11.2 11.2/11.9

So I did the rope trick on the exhaust valves and I have installed some stem seals. This stopped the smoking.
I also took it to my local rolling road dude and had a leak down test 1 and 4 =6% 2 and 3 = 10%. We checked the emissions and they looked ok. We tried a cold-ish start and had a look in the notes with a snap-on bore scope doofer and it all looked ok.
So fingers crossed it was the exhaust valve guides being a little loose.

Fingers crossed

The variance in cylinders as they I notice on mine. I just think it’s these old engines. Cold compression readings are all over the place, but hot readings after a good hard run and they’re all pretty similar.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

It was a bit of dog tooth, I presume from an over zealous gear change, it hasn’t crunched so I thought I would leave it. Maybe a bad idea but time will tell
