Quiet you! or I'll lock you in the box and chuck it back from whence it came! LOL

I'm pretty much gonna leave it as is, as Gary points out i really don't need another project! the bike frame was painted a few years ago so thats not too bad, the front carrier needs a paint though so I'll pull that off and give it a rub down and paint and fix the box up, its dead handy for getting the shopping and takeaways in... the worst bit is the rear wheel so I'll keep a look out for a period 3 speed one as its a bit of a nightmare fully laden...

Shame you don't live closer, we could split the sturmey and rebuild it. As long as the shell cracks they are easy to do.
If you want a new wheel, have a bit of a search, there are loads of companies doing 'old' wheels now, realising there is a bit of a resurgence in classic bikes. It wasn't that long ago that cotter pins were like hens teeth, now you can get the bleeding things in hellfrauds of all places!!

Good luck with the ride Joe. I reckon we might do London to Brighton this year as a first little run.

I'd like to do the Ridgeway on a bike. I've just walked it over 5 days, but would be great to do the 87miles on a bike over 2-3.

Was he the fella that won a stage at the Italian cycle that I saw on the news?

Mind Joe......the bike rides generally end up having a pint of local ale at some point!

I got myself a nice retro bike the other week, for £15 I couldn't turn it down. About 30-40 quid later and this is how it looks

Yeah I do need to drop it a little, but as its only a single speed and not an out-and-out racer its not going too low as its more comfotable having it higher haha, but there are a few other little things I need to sort out for it, including moving the stem down a tad. But overall not a bad bike for about £50 all in :)

Did you already have the wheels jake? Or did you manage to find a bit of a bargain somewhere?

I managed to find a proper bargain, my step dad restores and sells lots of bikes, buy them really cheap from charity shops and scrap yards etc and so has a lot of mates who always know to give him a ring when bargains come up. And it just so happened that these wheels came up, with inner tubes and tyres for £10 for the pair, and they were exactly what I was after. It would be rude to turn them down! They are massively heavy and are clearly cheap wheels, but they look the part haha.
I think in time I will replace them with something better, but for now they are perfect.
The seat I already had off my mountain bike, and the drop handle bars and brakes I swapped with a mate for the old chrome wheels and tyres that came off the bike.

i love making/revamping bikes, im currently in the middle of a 1950's Speedwell rebuild, will be using a 2 speed internal change hub with coaster brake and painting back to original cream with decals :)

My brother lives in the states and came for a holiday and brought his specialised Roubiax and the brakes on that were on the wrong way round as well.
