Looks great. I've got the ally beam but it's just been sat in the box while I wait for other parts. I hope it's not as much as a pain to fit as yours seems to have been.

When you do fit it bolt the bare beam to the car first then put the radius arms and brakets on at the same time. You can't bolt the beam to the car with the brackets fitted.

Kean's was the same as mine and needed cutting to fit up against the seat squab.

Got a little bit done this weekend. Feels like I'm getting somewhere now even if it's created a load more jobs that need sorting.

Not hugely impressed with the angle of the shocks so going to lift the top mounts a bit and then make a new lower mount to kick it out towards the wheel a bit more.

When you look at some of the heavily modified but nicely executed cars on here, including this one, what would the people who bought them new think?

Forgot I'd not updated this in a while. I've done a few bits of stuff and things, bought some stuff and bolted some stuff together.

I even did welding today that actually looks like someone with half an ounce of skill did it :)

The KAD arms still need a bit more grinding to clear the minispares beam, not overly impressed with either of them tbh but they're light so I'll live with it.

Made new bottom shock mounts to get a better angle (std left, new right)

After putting an engine in and playing with the ride height some more it screwed the angle again. We ended up having a bit of a chin scratch and a tea drinking session one sunday morning to figure it out. Moved the top mounts higher and it seems to have cured it. (thanks to Kean and Anton and apologies for the pic *wink* )

this pic shows the angle with just moving the top mount up, the next is how they are now that we drilled out the lower hole in the top mount and used that. Also made brace bars, still need to cap the ends off before paint.

Got to work on the internal linkage now that an engine's in place. Spun up an adaptor on ants lathe and used some 10mm carbon fibre rod for the linkage. Still need to adjust it all up a bit but I have 1st and 2nd gears atm.

Had a few deliveries last month, namely pistons for the new build and a new face.

Got the doors all prepped ready for fitting the ally skins this weekend too. Had to repair both frame bottoms today which I did all by myself and actually found it turned out ok, I might get the hang of this having patience and doing bodywork eventually!

That's about it at the minute. I've pretty much decided I'm going to need a cage in it now though so my initial target of 599kg is out of the window. I can't stretch to a T45 cage so I've got a quote off a mate for a full weld in cds cage with door bars, harness bars and a dash bar which comes out not much more than buying all of that as a bolt in safety devices cage.

I like the use of carbon rod. Is it just pinned together with normal roll pins?

The UJ's are tapped with some M4 grub screws, once i'm happy it's all set right i'm going to drill the carbon so they bite in fully.

Looks great! That coilover angle/height looks similar to mine and it feels good out on the road.

Effectively upped your spring rates too.

Looking good, good to see progress. What cage? Roll centre?

You know I've got no idea about spring rates alex, is that a good or bad thing? I just wanted to make it so they actually compressed rather than pivoted. As long as I can run it fairly low and not snap the top ball joint I'll be happy *wink*

The cage will be a custom one from Huxley Motorsport, he mainly does cages for drag and drift cars.

Haha, no right or wrong spring rates, depends what you're doing with the car. I suppose it probably just worth bearing in mind that if someone says 'im using 300lb springs on my car' you would probably only need 250lb to achieve the same rate at the ball joint (at a guess). You've put a lever on the top arm basically. Good idea though, much better angle.

Oh cool, look forward to seeing it. Cages = cool. Its good to see projects with lots of tea and thinking, you end up with much better cars. I think we have all grown up a lot lol.

It's not a proper project if there's no tea involved! I'd say we've definitely grown up a bit, years ago i'd have just thrown a new engine in and patched up the rot. This time I'm going to do it properly as realistically i'm never going to rebuild it again.

We'll see, i'm not throwing any more money at lightweight parts for now. I'm going to leave it so that it gives me something to tinker with in the future.

This was 642kg before it came off the road, all std and steel (rust) but with plastic windows.
