the LC1 is now ditched in favor of a vems AFR/EGT gauge bought from BAT (cheers gavin), I have also pulled out the nasty stepper motor gauges I had in there and have a proper boost gauge couresy of theoneeyedlizard.

I've literally just got it wired in and fired up. straight away its reading via the ecu and the egt looks right.

a proper report on the gauge coming soon! *wink*

PMSL!!!

just been out for a bit of dataloging and the mysterious misfire at high rpm reared its ugly head again,

after a few secs of full throttle, the misfire starts and remains despilt lifting off for some seconds then it smooths out....

at home after looking at the data logs i went out and inpected the plugs, bit rich but nothing to out of the ordinary, stuch them back and it woulnt fire.....

after a bit of head scratching I measred the voltage to the coil pack... F all.

so, i pull the coil pack fuse, its 5A but should be 15A. and unsuprisingly its blown.

cant belive i've been driving it like this and it's not left me stranded.

stuffed a 15 in and it sounds smoother than it ever has!.

anytime mate.

be interested to what you reckon on the steering/handling compared to yours, seeing as you've got the same rims and have gone from metro hubs to mini ones *wink*

indeed, its doing a pretty good "ivor" impression out the breathers, still just the box to build and then the other on can go in.

Just read this thread looks like a good project! Does the actuator just control the VNT or does that control boost aswell? The reason i ask is i have read of a chap using a vnt on his R5 and was struggling to get it to run constant boost as it kept spiking so he was thinking of a external wastegate to catch boost spikes! What make and size is the wastegate? Sorry for all the questions *happy*

the wastegate limits the bust at a D-cup.

lol bust size.

well, I havent noticed any boost spikes in the logs when the wase gates have been conected properly....but i've only been running at 4psi, apart from when the external wastegate failed shut.

TBH at this point i'm not sure which wasgate is actually controlling boost. I really should pull the pipe from the external one and see what happens. I may find that i then get boost spikes.

I havent tried it yet due to teething issues like the lamda playing up (now sorted) noie on the sensor grounds (sorted), now i seem to be getting sticking valves after a few secs of boost.

gradually working my way through stuff though.

I will pull the pipe on the second wastegate tonight and do a log to see what i get.

Also I suspect its essential to get the plumbing of the vnt wastgate right....

looking at the pic below,

at rest with the engine off the vanes are sprung shut by the actuator (toward the rocker cover) the rep pipe is connected to the comressor and the black pipe to the plenum by a one way valve.

at idle the black pipe sucks the vanes parially open, fully on over run. this can be seen by reving the engine.

when the engine makes boost the wastegate is blown open via the red pipe, the otherside of the actuator does not see the boost due to the one way valve. for this to work the vacum side of the actuator needs to not be totally sealed vacum does not get trapped in it.
