Well, I put the pump in a simple test rig, using the old Miglia tank complete with 7 year old petrol and it's flowing very well indeed, plus hardly making a sound but then there is no pressure on it.

So I'm going to drain the new tank through some gauze (stocking!) to see if there is any crap left in the tank.

We had a pump that caused us problems. Made no noise seemed to pump ok, but never delivered properly. I seem to remember Wil sent it back to the manufacturer and they confirmed it was not pumping, but could not say why.

Paul have you tried dead heading it with a pressure gauge and seeing what it will make?

Not yet, but we will do.

We've just spent about an hour swilling the tank to get even more crap out of it. Same black tissue/foam substance. Even had to adapt the Vacuum cleaner to extract the last bit.

Still need to do a final swill but rain stopped play. Too smelly for an indoor job. I now stink (more than usual, that is).

Must have a word with the tank manufacturer, me thinks, but then the crap could have been in the pump, filter, regulator or even the pipes...... who knows?

Looks like it could have been some thin packing foam of some description? whatever it was has definately degraded due to the fuel, may have been stuck inside the tank or anything pre filter, i highly doubt it would have been in the pipes, they have no use for packing foam for that kinda stuff. Id just ring around and query as to if they use it or not.
Just thinking about it, could have been the filter maybe if its an inline unwashable type thing? may have been one of the layers of filtration come away if its not a paper type thing.

We now have rising fuel pressure under boost and also a much quieter pump *happy*

Hopefully we managed to get everything out but if the pump gets louder we know what to check first.

So you now have a pre-pump filter?

Nope, that's on the list of winter jobs, there isn't much space at the moment.

The plan is to replace the subframe with a beam and mount a pre pump filter and pump underneath.

We then should also be able to fit a handbrake as Carls beams have the guides whereas our current subby doesn't.

I've actually heard similiar, about 50/50 diesel/oil. Done the pouring diesel down bores on an engine thats been stood awhile. Anything to stop the rings picking up.

slightly off topic,

Ive seen a 1500cc fiat have its sump filled with diesel to release some stuck rings, drop oil, fill with diesel, start and leave running for 15 mins, drop out the derv, refil with oil.

Following our unsuccessful attempt to get the car setup on the strip, due to weather:

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=440795

The car is about to get some simple upgrades over the winter with a view to getting it on a rolling road in the spring.

The main problem that we encountered at the Pod was the fuel rail unions coming loose and loosing fuel pressure at the end of the run. Not good when the turbo is hot :(

So we are going to try and weld some -6 fittings on the end of the rails. We've also got some copper washers to create a better seal at the distribution blocks:

My parcel finally arrived from DIYAutotune this morning, after sitting in customs for 2 1/2 weeks, with some more goodies. A new Walbro 255 pump and a pre-pump filter and 60 micron element:

Not really sure if we need the new pump, but better to be sure than loose another RR session.

good stuff!

the ends of my rail I just hacksawed and filled flat, as a result they are not 100% perpendicular, so I heated the copper washers so soften them so they crush easier.

I think that I'll weld the fittings to the end of the rails.

There is only minimal engine movement, but it is enough to loosen the unions on the end of the rails.

EDIT: The engine spec has evolved over the last 3 years. We are not using the Phase 2 cam and the turbo is the GT2056 for now. Clutch is an RTS and the head is a Pierce alloy 5-port.

that looks good Paul, If a little over complicated :) (for me anyway!)

So is there any mini turbos out there with 5 porter and running 200 bhp + on injection? that we know of?

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph
First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on a carb?
First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on Injection?
