That's a real shame Robert, I found (and then read) the whole thread yesterday. Very impressive.

Has it moved under its own steam yet?

no dan ,i ported the head but a sudden 2400 pound bill rather took precedence .also my own 5 port put out a lot more power than i was really expecting , and it all gets a bit expensive to get a strong enough gearbox .

Infact, im after a few more details on the cylinder head swop if you would mind someone using the idea? *happy*
First congrats on sorting the running of the engine! Nice to see something new being done with the old cast iron mini lump *smiley*

First question, Bottom pulley.... Is that a belt drive bottom pulley from a mini (correct amount of teeth/tooth profile? )or the other option of the punto one opened up with a woodruff groove ground out?

Secondly, Any reason for using the MPI block? Obviously no dizzy drive gubbins but surely that's not the main reason?

Also, the cylinder head, I assume your using a punto head gasket? Also the head.... Did you redrill that for the head studs and galleries to line up perfectly or did you modify the block?

I know, really basic questions but ones I am struggling to comprehend! The timing side, is there a specific tooth to gap ratio pulley you used? I've got a lot of a FORD EDIS setup here so ideally i'd like to run that, try and keep it as cheap as possible!

Any help is greatly appreciated, Also if there's anything extra you could help with that I may of over looked that would be greatly appreciated also.

Regards,
Ben

hi ben,

bottom pulley is the fiat one opened up and a keyway hacksawed into it .

the mpi block was free ,Neil picked it up for me while I dyno tested his car about a million years ago .

I used the mini gasket ,and moved the stud positions in the block.

I used an old edis pulley off a sierra.

robert

Hello all
Sorry for dredging up an old post.
But this is a conversion that really appeals.
Has anyone else done this?

And does anybody have the pics for the early part of the build. Good old photo bucket has deleted them all!
Thanks for yer help guys

Hi Robert
Thanks for the reply.
I guess do you have any pics of the build. The original post on the forums has no pics left.
That might answer some questions for me.

1. The tensioner looks like is using one of the water pump bolts?
Is that just because it was convenient?

yes.

2. You said you used the 1275 gasket. If the block is modified for studs and fluid ways did you have to mod the gasket?

i modded the block moving the studs around .and made holes in the gasket .

3. Did you plate off the original crank and camshaft pulleys?

i made separate seal holders for each .

4. Standard Fiat belt.

no idea lol it was a long time ago , i think i built it then measured and found a belt to fit .

It seems like a fairly achievable conversion.

no probs i will see if i have any pics ..

Cool Robert thanks.
That copper pipe is an oil feed to the ohc?

Is that in engine still in your ownership. Hopefully it will run a full boost one day!

Thanks for your help. A long term project for me to start work on!

Yes Robert
I think a thread would be appropriate.
Thinking of N/A with Itb though so maybe not on this forum!
Must get myself a Punto engine abd familiarise myself with it. Alot to learn.

Didn't realise it ran an external oil feed to the cam for example.

fiat-gasket_zpsryufh9gd.jpg

I had a chance to look over the information shared regarding this conversion. I thought I might try and get a few answers to some questions I have. (some stupid I’m sure)

Attached is a pic with the required mods to the Mini block.

Yellow- Stud positions. The center bolt also which looks to like up very conveniently. Good start!

Blue- these are the positions for the waterways to the Fiat head. If these are drilled in the block will they find the Mini water jacket ok?

Red- Oil drains from head to the block. Will using 2 of the 6 be sufficient?

Can the rear 2 be drilled through the block into the oil gallery at the back of block? Or better off running externally to the fuel pump hole.
Robert, how did you run the oil out of the head?

On the front 2 it looks like these will need to be run externally down front of block to the Dizzy hole?

Green- 2 oil drains from head to be blocked and unused.

Robert on your conversion used the Mini gasket. Is there any reason the Fiat gasket couldn’t be used saving the need for modifying the mini gasket?
