when you get that turbo plumbed in that orange cover may be an issue *oh well*

Loogs good mate!! I really like that display. Dont take me the wrong way, but it looks a tad small. I fitted a larger display because as you were driving along, the bumpy ride of the mini made it difficult to focus on the screen, you end up taking your eyes off the road far too long. Just dont get into the situation that you are doing that *wink*

remember this is only the test engine, and is running a std box.

its going to be limited to 10psi absolute max, less if the clutch slips obviously.

your right sprocks, the display could do with bei ng bigger, i have sepperate gauges for stuff i need to look at ie lambda, boost, IAT, the dispplay is just handy to edit the Map.

clutch wise i'm hoping TD will come up with somthing by the time the other lump goes in.

well, no clutch slip,

starts making boost at about 2k and is making proper boost by about 2.5k pretty good for a gt25!

tyre place cocked up and got the wrong tyres in, they have just rung to say they now have the right ones, but the gas man is changing the meter so can't get them fited til the morn,

MOT is booked for 2 tomorow.
car is insured, just waiting for mot and tax then i can get mapping.

theres a thought, Yes a modded verto would be a good option, even if only temporaraly,

someone else is running one but I can't remember who. Bat maybe?

tis legal!

just been for a bit of a jaunt to find any teething problems,

it has developed an oil leak from the timing chain end somwhere,

one of the boost hoses keeps popping off where its cut a bit short, i think when i shut the throttle (no dump valve yet...)

Have a misfire that appears when you wind it up to about 60-70, it starts missing and carries on after you lift of for 15-20 seconds, then sorts itself out, I think its rich enough according to my narrowband and dosen't seem to be pinking, but probably dosent help that an 88 degree stat seems to have found its way in *oh well* so its running a bit on the hot side.

one weird thing is the capilery temp gauge seems to jump about in relation to the throttle??

dunno,

I have no way of connecting to the serial at the moment, I have 2 tempremental usb cables, one worked on my laptop, but i lost the drivers and cant get it working again, so I'm using my bro's laptop, trouble is all the inovate software is on my laptop and the inovate disc is screwed...

I have had a google round and aparently the analog outputs are a little delicate, if you short them they will die, I mam positive i havent shorted them though, I've stuck in a narrowband but either megatune or the ecu dosent want to seem it so i have the narroband on a multimeeter at the moment, I'm wondering if the O" input has died on the ecu and taken the LC1 with it....

good news,

i didnt kill the LC1, i got myself a PCMCIA to 232 convertor to eliminate those pesky usb cables, rigged up the lc1 on a psu and got it comunicating, waving a lit gas soldering iron past the sensor gives about 10:1 AFR, (handy test...)

crap all was coming out of the analog outputs, I downloaded the firmware from inovates site and reflashed it an hey presto they both work again!

just like with the MS..... fucking processors.

speaking of which, i best check the o2 input on that.

here is the log of that squirt. notice i bottled before full throttle lol.

well,

I didn't bring it to MITP as i was a bit wary or breaking it as i'd only done about 50miles and had'nt got a proper map in it, which was a good decision really, as one of the rear wheel bearings has lunched itself at approx 80 miles due to over torquing the rear hubs, so it has the rear in the air at the moment until i get the hubs back from Kad with new bearings in.

Also the RH tank is weeping slightly despite me POR15ing it, so that needs to come back out and be treated again.

anyway a couple of pics from getting back from taxing it last week..

Also, I have started work on the "proper" engine, dished the pistons so i can loose the second headgasket and run some real boost, reamed the rods so the pins are full floating, will turn up the ptfe buttons next week and start fitting the oil jets and oil fed thrust bearing.

Lathe looks familiar, I'm having to make an adaptor up for my Hypatechs as they have recesses at the gudgeon pin locations so won't go in the three jaw.....
Been working (or should I say thinking...) about it for the last 6 weeks, such is my progress.

How much did you machine out, not just cc's, but how much did you thin the thinnest part - that is my dilema, I may have to go down to 4mm at the lowest points, although the majority will still be 6mm.

Rod,

I have taken them out to 17.4-5 cc

Mounting pistons in a lathe is a PITA as they are a funny shape, I think a mill and a rotating table would be better.

for the hypertechs could you bung them in a 4 jaw chuck, I happen to have one for the clarke lathe, could post it up if you get stuck?

not sure how thin i nhave machined the crown but like you i measuresd it and decided it was thick enough across 3/4 of the crown so should be ok,

I have basicaly taken the deepest point of the dish outwards parrallel witha slight radius and angle at the outside edge, the top point of the dish is 60mm diameter as it started. I'll have a measure tomorow and see haw thin the thinest bit is, i think its 5mm.

also as i'll be runniing oil jets the piston strength should be helped.

robert,

the vnt seems to be working ok,

a few pages back there is the pic of the actuator with the vacum port that sucks the vanes open and the bressure one that blows them open,

at idle the manifol vacum is enoug to suck tha vans about half open, under any kind or deceleration the vane are sucked fully open,

I realised the otherday that under any kind or boost both sides would be pressureised and the vanes would stay shut so boost would runaway (until the second wastgate opens) so i added a oneway valve into the pipe fron te vacum port,

now under cruise (vacum) the vanes are open nail it and the vanes will shut until a the turbo starts spooling then they start to open, let off and they will shut momentarily then open fully eliminating back pressure in the manifold.

Thanks for that Joe, I'm aiming just for 10 - 12 cc (from the 7.4 the hypatechs start with).

From my measurements I will just get 4 very small areas where the crown goes thin.

I did think about using a 4 jaw (I don't have one but a mate from work does) but decided to make up a jig that fits inside the pistons (where they are circular) instead. Then clamp the pistons to the jig with a "wooden" gudgeon pin and threaded rod.

Thanks for the offer of a loan of a four jaw although, if I took it up, I'd probably come down to collect rather than post, just to see where I used to live !!!!

Rod.

robert,

the vac side of the actuator isnt a perfect seal, similar to a guide seal, as thats what i used to seal it.

Rod,

i cant see that being an issue, i'm guessing the 4 areas are close to the pin bosses anyway so are well heat sinked at that point.

if you need the chuck pop down.

Garry, all the agro will be worth it!

at least thats what i keep telling myself...
