Have you considered the price of a new set and keeping what you have for spares? Just because from what shane is saying... and being around when shanes mini was eating engines you dont wanna be going thru this again shortly

I've actually got a 1293 lump and forged pistons etc and a few other spare bits and bobs. So if it all goes wrong Im sure I've got enough spares to make another engine lol.
Years of collecting bits now seems worth it!! Haha

Well done a bit more...

Cam timed in. Forgot to get pic of it with dti gauge and timing wheel on. Got it to 108° (Avonbridge phase 2 cam)









Box back on. This time I've used loctite gasket sealer and thread lock on the bolts.







Transfer gears+case and flywheel next. Then head and Turbo etc. Hopefully be ready this weekend ready to go back in the mini.

Thanks jony. I've taken this particular engine out of my mini so many times I've lost count now 😂 I should be getting good at it now lol.

I've got a chinq rad sat on my shelf from ages ago. I'm wondering weather I should try and fit it. Only thing is, I don't want to move the number plate or lose the bumper.
Do you guys reckon I could get it to work without chopping the front about?

Loads of room in a clubman front. I had a metro rad in one years ago. Cut the front panel below the grille to make room. From the outside you can’t tell.

I've currently got oil cooler and inter cooler directly behind the grille.



Would be nice to maintain them there, but I suppose I could move things about.

My rad fits lower than your intercooler and oil cooler does Josh. I will try and put a picture up.

It works a treat but still a squeeze.

What rad are you using?

I've done a bit more research and am now tempted by a mpi rad and fit it in front of the alternator. I'll have to move the oil cooler but I'm sure I could fit that else where easily enough.

I had radtec make me one up to the exact size and outlet positions that I asked for. It's really good quality. I wanted the biggest possible rad I could get to fit. I take the number plate off on track and the temps never go above 80°. It's 50mm thick plus a fan attached to the back of it.
It's very close to the starter motor.

Well got my head and flywheel on....





Going to fit my denso alternator again and see if I can get it to work.
I'm also going to get a alloy rad off ebay and see how it goes. I'll need to get a 8mm inlet welded in the top as I like the turbo returned there.
The rad I've seen is thicker than normal and is 3 core. Each core is 22mm. I've asked for some pictures of the inside so I'll make a decision once I've seen them.

Managed to get a bit more done...





Ready to go back in the mini. Just got to see why my headlights aren't working properly first.

Nice engine!
Head lights could well be the center switch.
Mine needed a bit of practice to get working again.
Mind you, make sure it works properly and check the connector on the back. I have seen molten wires and connectors due to contact resistance many times.
I am going to fit relays for lights.

The lights are odd. The dipped beam works but the full beam, one side goes out completely and the other is dim. I want to sort it beforeally engine goes in as it'll be easier.

Well lights all sorted. There was some melted cables!
So I fitted heavy duty headlight loom. And just tidyed it up.
I then re wired the fan using a fused relay to tidy it up. And i took the live from the battery solinoid removing it from the fuse box. I also done the same fir the water pump.
I then decided to re do the fuse box with a blade type. This enabled me to give the fuel pump it's own fuse in the fuse box. I also fitted a relay for it in the boot, taking the live direct from the battery.



Then I managed to get the engine back in place.



Hopefully get a good day on it tomorrow and it'll be ready to fire up! Fingers crossed! !

It's been sat in my barn with the engine on the bench again due to a oil leak again.
I'm going to replace the timing cover for a DSN billet type. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
I've also replaced the carb choke seals as it was running lean on idle and hunting all the time.

Progress has slowed due to my caddy van I use for work blew up! 😭 That's all sorted now so hopefully get back to work on the mini asap

I've ordered a new timing cover so hopefully be able to get this back together and oil tight before the spring.
I might also make my dizzy bung into an extra breather, going into the rocker cover. Any thoughts on this appreciated.

So you have been driving it?

I took it round the block a few times end of April, then my caddy van blew up. So didn't have time or money to mess about with the mini.
I managed to get the engine out where it's sat waiting for me to sort it out.

Ok so this came through the post today...







I'm hoping this will resolve my oil leak!
Was going to get the DSN one but this was on offer and works out cheaper.
I might end up getting the trigger bracket and crank damper as well. As I'm not sure if my current set up will work with my new cover.
