Small update, all the panels are now painted. Had to paint them twice it the end. I switched to a new air line as the old one was looking a right mess and thought that might be were the dirt was coming from. Worst idea I have ever had!

Started painting and about 3 coats in I noticed lots of fish eyes, think the air line had some oil or something it! There were hundreds on each panel so stopped painting and buggered off home in a strop. Left it a couple of days, sanded it all off and started again with the old air line. Came out fine second time round so yet another learning curve! *happy*

Managed to find a nice quiet place for them where they wont get damaged.

Happy with how they came out after a quick flat and polish

Flatted the roof last night and gave it a good compounding tonight, needs a bit more in a few areas.

Thought now was a good time to join in with all the bell ends on social media with a selfie *happy*

Photobucket have changed their fucking terms of use. To make them visable again it will cost me (and many others that use PB) $399 a year! Should of used the turbomini uploader from day 1!

Thanks Andy, is there anything stopping Flickr doing the same thing in say 12 months time when everyone has jumped ship from photobucket?

I've used it for probably 10 years, all my pictures are still there. They run it as more of a social media place for photographers.

Just a small boring update. Been working on all the small parts that need painting, hinges, brackets, screws etc. The original bonnet hinges had damaged/snapped weld studs so went about replacing them. I couldn't find any suitable to buy so first off welded a stud into the hole

Then a 6mm washer was very close in size to the original weld stud so two of these got welded on the reverse

Then sand blasted and primered

As i said, a pretty boring update! *happy*

There the bits people forget when taking on these kind of projects. And there the things that take the most time!
Looks like it's going to be a lovely mini mate

Thanks JT.

Got the shell on the lift now so I can start building it up. Started with the brake and fuel lines. Made a high tech pipe straightening tool

Then set about making the pipes, think I went a bit bend crazy but they should be ok. Just waiting on the brackets for the bulkhead before I can finish the ends off. Also added the fuel return for when I eventually get round to sticking a turbo on it.

Only just realised when I started attaching the pipe that I forget to weld the two tabs on the toe board so not sure what to do about that yet.

Thanks lads.

Not a great deal to show for two months work! Mainly been cleaning parts up rather than bolting much in. Brake and fuel lines are finished now, got the rear subframe and steering rack fitted and thats about it

Been working on the sound proofing over the past couple of weeks so unlike most of the builds on here I have been adding weight instead of removing it Decided to go for modern products as apposed to the old felt stuff as I'm not that bothered about everything being original. Started with butyl pads to stop the vibration and panel drumming. Some people go for 100% coverage with this stuff but its very heavy and I didn't want to add too much extra weight so I went for around 30%. I have been told anywhere from 25-50% is good enough for most applications.

Next was onto a closed cell foam which I covered everything with. On the roof and bulkhead I used a slightly thicker foam which is sold as a thermal insulator as well, thought it might help to keep the temperature down in the summer.

The final layer is a mass loaded vinyl which goes over the main area of noise, so I stuck this to the bulkhead, toeboard, floor, wheel arches and boot floor. Its usually about 5kg psm but again to try and keep weight down I went for a lighter one so hopefully it will still do its job.

In between doing all that I restored the master cylinders. Blasted and painted them, just placed them in the bay to see how they looked and realised I have done two brake ones *Clapping* So will have to try and dig my clutch one out and start again

Thats looking really well, I agree with the philosophy of adding a bit of weight if it improves your comfort.
