*Yes* Took delivery of 4 Yoki A032r's to go on them today *smiley*

Managed to get a few days in the garage since Christmas. Got the passenger side arch closing panel and a new quarter panel fitted.

Decided to screw the panels to the B pillars. Make sure of getting a good fit and weld.

Also replaced the pattern driver's side quarter for a genuine one.

They both lined up perfectly and where a lot easier to fit than the pattern one. Bit of a relief as I wasn't sure if I'd got the arch etc right. Getting there...

Quarters look spot on,glad you got it sorted after the nightmare with the previous panels.Looking at the pics thats a nice spacious workshop you have there, very envious!

This is probably a strange request but if you get chance could you measure the length of the torch lead on your 160 please?Im thinking of ordering a 160 but the torch seems pretty short in the pics ive seen which is putting me off a bit.

Cheers Ross.

Really pleased with the quarters, turned out much better than I had hoped.

The pic's are deceptive, it's a small double garage with far too much crap in there. In that last pic, the mini is just about touching the metro van which is almost against the wall. Just gives me enough room to work.

I'm starting to get an irrational fear of drilling spot welds.

Sticking to the body work some more, I've had FastCarl work me a crank and set of rods.

It's wedged, back drilled, the O.D. has been turned down to 125mm, cross-drilled big ends and hand clean up.

They've had the big ends faced off, little end radius' machined, main caps radius' machined, little ends reamed for floating pins, balancing and hand finishing.

Top work as always. *smiley*

I red that the 1275 has a balancing problem (which is cured by wedging) is the turning down a step backwards regarding this particular issue ?

Also, what is the standard diameter ?

What is the new weight ?

Rusty by nature

Haven't weighed it yet, will have to dig a standard one out for comparison. I will be getting the whole rotating assembly balanced, so it shouldn't be an issue.

The turning down etc is all to reduce weight, I asked Carl not to knife edge it as I wanted some weight left in to help the engine rev down a bit with it being a road car.

Nice work, its a good stage to get to when you get the rear quarters on. Ive done bugger all on mine, those manifolds are taking up all of my spare time at the moment. :(

Looks like I have some more competition of who can replace the most panels. *hehe!*

Are you going for a mk1 back panel now?

Thanks.

I've got a N.O.S. MK 2 genuine rear panel down the cellar. I don't think MK 1 lights would look right on a clubby. There's light at the end of the tunnel, just the bits you can't see in that last pic left to stick on. I think you win with the panels Matty, mine is only about 50% new *wink*

Mine hasn't been touched for almost 6 weeks now. The cold weather and too many opportunities to socialise have got in the way, so well done for making the progress you have.

It's amazing how many panels go into that boot floor area isn't it? Matty won't understand half the work we have to go through with all the seatbelt brackets and mig welded reinforcements which are annoyingly difficult to remove on later shells!

Does the Mk2 rear panel have a different gutter to your car? My Mk2 drains from 2 small cut outs along the bottom of the gutter rather than the gap above the seam the later Mk3s use. It wouldn't make much difference but it just makes me think a NOS Mk2 panel would be worth more than a Heritage rear panel would cost. That is a complete guess though, I'm probably wrong.

Good luck with the rest of it, you'll have the shell done before me at this rate. I think I'd better try and put some hours in soon!

Ta. Just the 4 rear subby closing panels and the arch stiffeners on mine as it's a MK3ish shell. No rear belts either *tongue*

Just had a look at the rear panel. It has no gutter drains what so ever. I'm sure I read somewhere that the dealers had to drill the gutter holes on early cars when they where delivered to them.

As pictures can describe this far better than I can. This is the rear of my 1990 car, I expect yours will be the same.

This is my Mk2 (it was impossible to get the the back but it is a very similar design)

As you can see the gutter on the Mk2 looks almost continuous with little slots for it to drain from, the later Mk3 has a gap at each seam.

You don't know what your missing with the seatbelt mountings! I had a great time trying to remove the boot floor from them.

My car is like the top picture, but the new panel has the gutter all the way round to the join. I guess it will need to be trimmed to open the gap up. My old '75 clubman had gutters like your MK 2.

I've still got a load of grinding to do, so it will be no quick job getting the floor fitted with out the luxury of a spit...
