About time i pulled my finger out and got on with this!

As some will know I think i killed the engine at MITP in 2012, cab filled with smoke in 3rd/4th gear, heard a bit of det and got stopped at the end of the track for dropping oil.

It was breathing heavily by then anyway with how old the bottom end was so I'd just wound the boost up to see what it would take to kill it. Gauge only goes up to 20psi and it was somewhere around the bottom, way off the scale.

It was stuggling to idle and running real lumpy when i got it back to the pits, had filled the catch can and thrown it out of the dipstick, filler cap etc.

Got it recovered home and it's sat in the garage since then. MOT ran out a couple of weeks after MITP and it's a bit rotten so wouldn't have passed anyway.

Which leaves me here at the start of a full strip down and rebuild. Hoping to make some pretty quick progress the next couple of weeks getting it bare and assessing the amount of welding needed before i decide where to go from here.

This afternoons efforts anyway..

Pretty gutted about the lack of obvious piston damage. Guessing it'll be the ringlands that are gone but it'll be a while before i strip it any further. Want to concentrate on the body first.

Blimey, I'm surprised there isn't a hole in one of those Bert. Good stuff though, have you ripped the loom out?

I managed to have a go at mine earlier...

I know, i was expecting to see some carnage!

Yup the front half of the loom's out, all the dash and associated spagetti is out.
Want to try and have just the rolling shell by the end of tomorrow.

what did you do to yours? just getting to it would be a feat!

Only plans at the minute are a set of +40 mega's I've just bought off Vegard.

I'll probably get the rods and crank worked and everything nicely balanced and see about revving it to 8k.
Will have to learn new stuff and see about getting a custom cam and all that jazz too i guess.

For the rear frame is not just a case of removing the rear bolts and then giving it a gentle tug?

Pretty much yeah, but i'd like to keep the shell in as big a piece as possible for a while.

Had a bit of time in the garage tonight and it's now 99% stripped, just a few little bits to take out now.

Looks like i'm going to be thrown in at the deep end learning to do bodywork that's for sure!

Both sills have been filled with expanding foam by the looks of it. Door steps are rotten, bottoms of the B posts are rotten, rear quarter bottoms are rotten, flitches are rotten, air vent holes are rotten.
Still more investigating to do, then i'll decide what to do with the shell i guess.

yeah had to chop them out to get at the door hinges, the nuts were just round blobs of rust.

One of the bolts that holds the camber bracket on sheared the captive nut too so had to hack that to pieces.

Good job i stocked up on cutting discs!

I'm impressed that engine took so much punishment for what is basically a standard unit. 40k miles from what must be a 200hp motor is pretty good going.

I would fix that shell, it's not bad at all considering how old it is.
