Also on my part sorry for bringing down the average with my underperforming 1380 :( rather ashamed of it lol.

You didn't bring it dow more than Ben did. It'll give others a chance of beating it anyway!

Well before I start the longest post ever, first of all I would like to thank Wil_h, all the lads at smart and everyone I was chatting to yesterday for a good day.

Right then my day at smart started off with me setting off at 07.00 from Surrey in fog. When I hit the M40 the fog was still in and I sat at a steady 70-80mph all the way up.
When I got to J9 the car was not running it's best so I stopped and noticed that the oil temp was very low, the gauge had not moved at all. I had had a good idea at the petrol station that morning and I got some Cadburys chocolate fingers for lunch. I put the box around the oil cooler and let it heat up a bit and off I went to smart. I got there at 09.50 where I met Paul s & sturgeo.

So on to the rollers:
The first time I went in my bottom gearbox steady was on the roller because the car is so low. So NO run there.

My second run was with the steady removed and it was funny watching Chris fold himself in to the MK1. The run was all going well but when it was up at speed a big cloud of smoke appeared as the in bored cv boot had come off and covered the windscreen, roof, TV screen and the inlet and outlet manifold with grease so NO run again

This is the point where nic said he would help me as I gave him my last big cable tie when I helped him with his cv boot that morning. Well John lent me his scissor jack from the van and along with my jack we got the car up high enough to work on .(with some bricks and bits ) Cowboy was not the word. With the 2 cable ties I got off Chris we managed to fix both inboard cv boots done thanks nic & Carl S for the help

Third time lucky and back on the rollers all 3 runs were good and I think I got around 115bhp I have forgotten now, ii will find out when I get the mag *oh well* well I was happy as I thought I am not going home on a AA truck

Then more chatting and more chatting and force feeding Robert Cadburys chocolate fingers and more chatting it was time to go home as I had been putting it off *oh well*

On the run back the car was running good and when I got to the M40 services I stopped for some food and fuel. Next is where it all went wrong, back on the M40 the rain started and then I was thinking what is that all over the screen (cv grease) sh1t*frown* so i steered the boat all the way down the M40 not seeing much at all. I missed my junction so I went the long way around and onto the M25, when I got on there the wiper started to do mad stuff then everyone was flashing me I was thinking what the fuck is going on. Then ALL the gauges stopped working but it was driving ok so I looked for a bridge to stop under. When I stopped I found that I had no lights (I had not noticed as the M25 has lights on it) I had a look and the damn alternator bracket had gone Man Down again! but luckily the Cadburys chocolate fingers box had stopped the alt earthing out on the cooler.

So I called the AA at 9.30 they said we will get back to you. At 22.30 i got a call to say that they were on the way and they would be there at 23.40, so I got some stuff out of the car and went to sleep on the hard shoulder, then some traffic wombles came and woke me up and said the truck was on it's way I said, I know.

The AA got to me and this 6ft odd unit got out and said can I have the keys I laughed and said NO you will not fit so we had a bit of a chat about it and I drove it onto the truck . When I got on the truck, all pissed through (all 3 coats) I was thinking about sleep when I told the guy where to take me. The response I got was I know when I was there 10 years ago as a recruit (as I live and work as an instructor at the biggest Army training depot) so no sleep all the way home with him telling me how hard his training was, I just said I knew all about it as I am an instructor there and it's my job to make it hard. I eventually got home at 12:30 so it was a long old day *surprised**surprised*

Was a cracking day. Chris seemed to be well busy. Compliments to the burger chef! *happy*

Hospitality was spot on too.

A Couple of extra things would have been nice on the rollers.

Boost tee off, proper rpm monitoring via a pick-up etc but it was a nice setup none the less *smiley*

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Lol. It was seriously wet on the way back. I was too excited about it surviving the rollers to be cautious though.

see i knew there was a reason i didnt want to take them all , i was having a premonition !
this whole instructor malarky does explain why i kept having an impulse to drop and do 20 all the time ,although nic bending over in front of me talking about his package and his chocolate fingers probably put me off the idea .
