alternator is on and works perfectly, 14.6v on idle :)

most of the other stuff is done, just got to bleed the brakes and PTFE the fuel pump unions in the morning, then put the front back on!

Very interested to see what temp it runs at with this rad fitted, I've got a 74 degree stat in there currently with 6 6mm holes around the rim

More pics that look the same as the last, just marginally different!

Righty then!

just a few tiny jobs to get done this morning, then I'm off to Slark for a setup!

Anyone care to guess at how many bananas and curly wurlys it's make?

Last engine was 100 at Slark, this feels much stronger, but I never seem to have any luck!

115 bananas as a wild guess.
Good Luck!

What are the lottery numbers for tomorow night Sturgeo?

I'm back, and it didn't blow up! result.

End result was 114 bananas with 97 curly wurlys.

it drives really nicely now, much much better than before, I'm really happy with it. Fairly driveable in traffic still, with awesome power further up. past 5k it really starts to properly fly, all the way to the limiter at 7500.

Chuffed to bits with it, feels brilliant :)

cheers chaps, I'm happy with it. feels VERY different to the last engine which made 100 at Slark.

Bit of CAD before i left for Slarks to try and keep some of the horrific rain out of the engine bay, only one side panel made it as far as Slark though. rad blanking was an experiment to see if it altered running temps.

I've found the rad is simply incredible when moving, temp didn't go above 70 degrees at all no matter how I drove it. However, it relies heavily on airflow, and the temp creeps up fast on idle, so without a fan, it's going to overheat.

Going to order a revotec fan in there this week, just need to work out whats the biggest fan I can fit behind it.

On the rollers, my god it was loud in there, Neil took it up to 8000rpm at one point, and had it held at 7000-7500 for ages perfecting the mapping top end.

I'll get a pic of the graph later on, in the end it was a bit of a trade off between top end power and midrange, and we went for a middle ground.

Power at the wheels was 96bhp.

Rev limit set at 7500rpm now, it'll go higher, but this is totally safe, and it's slightly beyond peak power, so there's no point in going further anyway.

I didn't realise what the soft cut rev limiter would be like, I thought it would just feel like the car slowing down a tad at the limit, but when this hits the limiter it does stop effectively and starts to misfire, giving that typical rev limit popping.

97 curlys Joey, 114 nanas at the crank.

It should be capable of more, but I don't think the heads up to it. it's an MED roadcomp from a few years back, 36x30 valves.

It's such a shame the old engine killed my MED full race head, that head originally came from this engine, and should have been capable of a good bit more

nice build! I am wondering what fittings you use on fibreglass front end in the subframe mount holes please?

Mine won't be flip but this looks really neat

wont be at MITP, got far too much to do sadly (was it this weekend anyway?)

Took the car out today, the new rad works amazingly, and the engine is pulling really well.

However, Whilst under it earlier I found that the bulkhead has really badly cracked at the rear subframe mounts:

Cheers guys,

I'm really liking this engine so far, it's a real screamer. the megajolt has made such an incredible difference to the way it drives too, it's just brilliant.

Not been around on here much lately at all, been really caught up in another project for a few months, so not even MOT'd the mini until today.

Having sat for 4 months in the garage, without so much as a battery charger, it fired into life instantly, and runs as perfectly as the day I parked it up!

Feels great to be driving it again, just in time for brooklands on Sunday :)

Cheers John. Audi is the current project, my nurburgring toy shared with my old man. 240bhp, 4 pot brembos, Quaife diff, etc etc.....

Feels awesome to be back in the Mini though :) it just fits me like a glove!

Can't wait to get out and give it a blast on Sunday. Will be back on here much more often now I think. I've been lurking, but not posted for months!
