well a little bit of progress; the car got mot'ed last night so I'm now legally back on the road, however the journey to the MOT station confirmed I still have a serious oil pressure issue along with a weak 2nd gear synchro.

looks like the engine is coming back out again

Damn it!

Odds on finding more blue roll? lol

Any idea whats causing the low oil pressure?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I checked pretty much everywhere Robert when it was out last time; The valve was clear when I took it out last night.

Thoughts are though that this engine has always had oil pressure issues so wondering if there is something else I'm missing

well, can't believe its been so long since the last update.

as some of you will be aware, the oil pressure issue was covered in another post and all has been well since the pump was replaced.

The car sat abandoned on the drive over the winter while I concentrated on the metro which is now up and running. Unfortunately the winter weather was not kind to it and the paintwork has started to micro blister and I've got a fair bit of water ingress to try and resolve.

I've decided to re-paint the car over the winter so have put it back on the road for the summer as it is to sort out all the little issues I've not been happy with ahead of a partial strip and re-build.

So managed a couple of evenings and a day at the weekend to sort a few items prior to going back on the road this week.

First issue was the brakes; I was having issues with the brakes staying on after the car had been on the road for say 20 mins or so. The pedal was sticking down and had to be lifted up with my foot to release. After a bit of discussion, (and checking the mechanism was free) I came to the conclusion the master cylinder was at issue and swapped it for another, however this didn't appear to be any better so plumped for a new one which I fitted last night. After a couple of sessions bleeding, the pedal and performance is where i'd have expected it to be.

While checking the brakes, I also noticed the exhaust hangers were knackered; another poor quality rubber part issue I think. I've wrapped them with cable ties for now but will need to renew them before the MOT.

Also sorted a couple of oil leeks and managed to break the steel turbo oil feed in the process; its been patched for now but I'll need to replace it with something more suitable when its all out the car next for the paintwork.

Finally, I borrowed some tracking gauges to attempt to set the car up a bit better than it is right now. I didn't get a before (it was toe in) setting but its now set around 0 and, while there is still the good old torque steer, it is behaving much better on the short blasts I've tested it on

Next bits needed are;

1) paint the other 3 wheels
2) replace exhaust mounts
3) fit new adjustable lower arms
4) identify water ingress
5) sort some wiring niggles (some of the accessories don't come on till stage 2 ignition)
6) speedo not working
7) rolling road

Rob, as elsewhere, buy Polyurethane exhaust hangers. A bit more money but last infinitely better.
