Re the smoke. This was the first run and it blew a lot of smoke out the exhaust.

After this it was clean as you like.

Sounds good and bad. Pity you can't come tomorrow.

I can't convince you to change the gasket tonight and come?

I've ordered the gasket set and I finish early, so as long as I don't encounter any problems I haven't really got an excuse not to come.

I know wintersurfer is keen.

Be good to see another possible 200bhp plus car there to lift the average up :)

Plus i want to see how you've managed to fit it all under the bonnet!

No worries Joe. I'll keep you posted.

I think Paul will go even if I can't get mine done. We could all go in his.

If that picture isn't a good advert for 11-stud, I don't know what is!!

At least there is no permanent damage to anything else, get it fired back together!

Although I've just popped an new gasket on for now. I agree 11 studs to come. It would be rude not to as I already have the studs and Joe has offered to do the drilling.

Thing is, there is some other stuff going on with the gasket...

Do you think I got one of the dodgy batch or could it be a torque related problem?

Meh! Turbo has died after 680 miles!

It was second hand, but seemed ok when I fitted it. Not much play at all.

Both wheels have made contact with the housings, there's about 1mm play in out, thrust bearing has been chomped...

Whack a rebuild kit on it? Lol

Anyone got a spare GT1752 laying around, collecting dust?

Right, gathering momentum again.

Second hand GT17 bought, rebuilt, balanced and fitted, Oil cooler fitted and new wideband nearly in.

Just a few bits to have it ready.

Good to see some progress, what are the gt17s like to rebuild?

The turbo was a piece of piss to rebuild, but it ended up costing a fair bit.

The rebuildable used turbo was £60, basic rebuild kit £30, new turbine and shaft £150 and balacing was £75. So it wasn't very economic in the end. If the shaft hadn't broken when I removed the nut from the compressor wheel, it would have been ok.

Finished it last night and taxed it this morning! All sorted with minimal fuss.

Only gremlin is the headlamps which have stopped worked.

Roads are slippy today too, can't get the power down with only 10 pounds of boost!
