Because the gearbox runs sat in oil (unless you dry sump before someone points that out) |

And because 4th is direct drive, therefore lovely and quiet once cruising.

Because the gearbox runs sat in oil (unless you dry sump before someone points that out) So it's to do with the fact that the oil is absorbing the noise in the box, but there isn't anything to absorb the noise with the drops - which is different to the gears being less noisy due to more lubricant So with a dry sump, the box would be as noisy as the drops So would the drops be less noisy if they were being fed with oil from above, instead of relying on oil being splashed around If being fed by oil would quiet them down (and lubricate better), could something be made up to feed oil from one of the main galleries above via a jet on to the primary gear (this would probably mean making some form of oil deflector to keep it away from the clutch oil seal) Would something like this help (sorry for the crap diagram by the way) Edited by ntm1275 on 1st Feb, 2012. |

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

My oil returns from my head through the drops, and hasn't made any difference to the noise. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fusion-Fabri..._homepage_panel

My oil returns from my head through the drops, and hasn't made any difference to the noise. In that case the noise in the box must be dampened by the immersement in the oil, so lubricating the drops makes no difference whatsoever - it may help with longevity though |
