Don't talk bollocks, lead free solder is fine. I have been using it for years and can hardly tell the difference.

As for R11 (4.7K resistor) I can't see a place for it, looks like a typo.

I have to disagree on that one,

Since we have been using lead free solder at work, my job has become a nightmare, apart from the fact its not nice to solder (doesn't wick/flow anything like as well as 60/40 tin lead) the worst thing is reflowing joints, it just doesn't seem to want to re-melt, also it seems to consume soldering iron tips at an alarming rate (they get a black oxide coating on them).

Also I hear that the new stuff grows whiskers like silver.

I know that would cause a reaction. I can only go on my own experiance. I have no problem flowing it. I will conceed that reflowing it is not so good, but that is mainly a flux thing anyway.

I don't want to say you are doing something wrong as it sound like you solder much more than me. But I really don't have a problem. At least you have used it, insted of moaning before trying it.

im using the really thin shit i got free with the gas iron, seems to be more than up to the job.

a lad in a town near me uses megasquirt on his ford rs turbo, so i might take my unit up to him and see if it works before installing it on the mini.

tried to take a few close up pics, just to help anyone else out hows doing a first build, but the camera cant focus that close up, so might dig the scanner out of the attic later on and give that a whirl.

one hint i will give though, is be gentle with Q1 and U5, the legs on mine look a little worse for wear after aligning the nylon bolt affixing it to the underneath. bar that though, im well chuffed with it.

cheers everyone, and a big thanks to ben h

I have to admit its not as bad to use on leaded components as surface mount stuff, but it has however slowed down our rate of hand soldered production by 20%

Set your digi cam to "MACRO" mode, this allows very close up pics to come out. *wink*
