These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

This is scaring me !

I bought a 295 a while ago and now realise I didn't check it properly so far ...

Is bead blasting the best option ?

I red somewhere heads can be welded ?

Rusty by nature

I'm sure heads can be welded in some cases but Veggard's 12G295 was cracked across a valve seat. I can't imagine that can sucessfully be repaired with weld. Maybe simple repairs can be done to waterways etc. but I can't imagine much else can be welded.
All these heads are over 30 years old now (or something like that). I wouldn't trust any head I found a crack on as I could not be guaranteed that it has no more cracks or how long it would last

My machinist says that he can fit two valve seats and thi might possibly work. After all, it depends on how deep the crack is. However, as heads are relatively cheap, it's better to find another one..

I now ALWAYS bead blast chambers BEFORE starting modifying heads. It's fucking annoying when you've spent 20hours on a head and when you grind the seats you find cracks. Never again!

I learned that the hard way too Vegard. I even spent €250 on a die grinder to mod my own head only to find it was cracked after the work. I ended up just getting a head from Benross as I got very pissed off aout it

Most likely yes, but you wont know until you grind away meat for valve seat inserts and having it Magnafluxed.

That head is ruined. The BAC has fitted 1275 valves. This might be rectified, but it's silly money for junk. Much better to find an original one.

I have a 12g295 head if your interested joe. It was reconditioned a few years back, not sure whether it was skimmed at all though, it doesnt appear to be.

cheers soap, the problem was my cr was too low, and its ethically wrong to skim a decent 295 (i have no evidence to base this on, but its generally regarded as fact)

but paul being a gent has sorted me out with some flat top pistons to use instead of dished ones which wil raise the cr without having to skim the head

most heads start out 2.75" thick at the factory, so get the measureing wand out to see if yours has been skimmed or not, may be of use to someone else on here?

Oh right ok, I just saw your link to the head for sale on ebay and thought you may be looking for another head! whoops!

I will check mine thoroughly for cracks and check the thickness as well when i get back home at christmas from uni. I will put it up for sale then when I get round to it :)
