A two stroke diesel will indeed run without a blower, but the amount of residula gasses from the previous cycle will make the engine perform badly. The blower got its name from being used as a scavenge device on diesel two strokes, it dosent produce any boost as such, just flow air though the cylinder ready for the next cycle.

Perhaps V is thinking about buying the BMC tractor, ripping out the 950 diesel, installing a 88 litre Deltic, to go tractor pulling On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Talking odd diesels, bloke at work was on about a three cylinder 2 stroke, with 2 pistons a bore travelling opposite directions The Chieftan Main Battle Tank from the Cold War era had a twin crank opposing piston, turbocharged set up. It was designed/built that way to be a 'high-performance' diesel. Unfortunately it was built by BL, so hardly ever worked. Don't tell the Russians! ![]() Oh, and I'm sure there's an animation of the deltic somewhere on pistonheads, if someone can be bothered to search. Found it: ![]() And the A-series diesel was rated at something like 34bhp, and fitted to 'mini' tractors (as in small tractors) I seem to remember and wasn't turbocharged.
