First, glad your OK (mostly).

But I'd echo what Tom says about a good solicitor now.

I don't know if the law has changed since something very similar happened to me - it was many years ago - but when I was hit by a drunk driver the insurance process all started normally but as soon as he was convicted (a week later) his insurance company invalidated his insurance.

Anyway, speedy recovery.
