Nice engineering exercise but a reality check needed here! All up 20K once you have dialled in the install and rolling road time etc

HA I suggest a group buy then!

Seems to be alot of reality checks going about lol

I still think vtec is the way to go for engine swaps

Although if you take the cost of a 6 speed sequential dog box and add it to a high spec k head build of similar power with the weight loss needed to put the cars at the same over all weight

I doubt there will be much in it £££ wise

I'd like to see the difference in corner weights of various conversions. One of the reasons I still love the A-series turbo is because the car still feels like a mini.
If I wanted just a 'fast' car there is plenty of other cars to choose from which do many things better than a mini.

I'll try get the estate corner weighted with the Eco boost out of interest

IS not my cup of tea, but ~20k seems very reasonable for what it is imho.

About the same price as a swiftune appendix K 120HP engine / gearbox package, or an all singing & dancing KAD 16V / 5 speed dox box package.

Hmmm, at 50kg lighter the busa does make for a superb weight distribution and overall power to weight ratio.

Then again, just be done with Matts 7 port turbo kit at 4K , wind the boost up to 200HP and be done *smiley*

I can't really see many kits being sold in fairness rarther have a knight Motorsport ones with a mean clubby front if I was going down this route
Maybe because of z cars not trading prices have gone up in conversions ? Not sure as I'm not looked at prices

I hope to have a turbo'd version of this later this year. The way I see it is 400bhp reliable engine with pretty much bullet proof 6 speed sequential box. I think for £20k it's similar money to a KAD engine. Who's going to buy my engines from me.

Where would these place in competitive motorsport regulations? Those most likely to buy one might not be able to race in the same class, ergo it could be an expensive gold watch.....

And look how much watches sell...and resell for.

The engine swap alone, then the sequential box, then turbo ( if used ) would push the car out of most normal classes.
Certainly within the MSA structures, I doubt any human being would ever be able to figure out where it would stand

Doesnt make it any less impressive or cool

It'd be nice if they offered the box side of things for A series fitment too just to open up more options.

I'd be in class M, (motorcycle engines) but I think the car would be more than capable of and outright win with the correct driver.

baring in mind that my engine is currently 1.3cc with the MSA 1.7 multiplier for forced induction put me at 2.21cc so I'm already in the over 2L class. This puts me in with 500BHP cossy's ect, I don't see the new engine as a disadvantage, my only problem is the heavy weight of my steel bodied mini against the space framed cars

What sort of weight is the current powertrain ?

If this offers a good reduction up front,lk it may still help the overall balance F/R of the car even if the overall chassis is still a little heavy.
That's bound to make it faster and easier to drive ?

Plus the benefits the powertrain itself add to going faster.

not sure on weight but being an A series its bloody heavy, the K head is also surprisingly heavy too for and ally head

Very nice engineering excersise, but I would rather have a well sorted mini for fun and a seperate ballistic track car for the cost of conversion.

Isnt the a series in full fat form around the 150kg mark
There are lighter engines out there you can get to those figures with alot less cash maybe not 6 gears but 5 atleast

Outside the box

At the end of the day we're not really a community that spends 20k on an engine are we..? Not out of the box anyway!

I think it looks really good and considering the engineering involved its fairly priced too but it takes away 'the point' of playing with old cars for me a little bit. I dont want to just hand over the cash and walk away with a fast engine. I want to do it myself.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018
