Bam, some tyres will be illegal as of october according to the spiderwebs. Nankang are doing NS2r's in 175/50 with 7mm tread and two compound ratings the 120 soft track compound and 180 road compound, they ARE legal and will not change for the time being. they also do a 185/60r13 which i have for the ratro.

toyo are releasing a new "road legal R888" soon as well but the tyre sizes are TBC, yoko i have no idea as haven't spoken to them but IIRC dunlop was meant to be doing a 195/60 10" tyre but i haven't seen anything about that in a few years

the nankangs are E marked will check mine if S as well, but after speaking to them recently when purchasing mine they said they will be staying road legal. hence extra tread depth and more tread pattern. they have a very square sidewall so you get a larger contact area over a standard 185

I imagine this is something for Gav, but will the changes effect A008's too or is it just A032r's?

008's are fine. I bought the last set of road legal A048's (175/60/13) for my Metro the other week direct from Yokohama, we still have Mini size in stock though.

Haha.

This really is bollocks. As has been said before, the amount of road miles that cars do with these tyres negates any issue with noise.

This is going to make most of our cars fucking dangerous. I've only just started to enjoy a bit of grip since fitting the A032's.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Right you fuck monkeys.... *tongue*

being as no one can be bothered to spend two minuits to google the regulation.....

below is taken from this link.... https://www.gov.uk/eu-tyre-labeling-regulat...ss-and-industry

so pre 1990 cars are exempt... so most of us....

"Not included in the regulation

The tyre labelling regulation does not cover:

re-treaded tyres
professional off-road tyres
temporary-use spare tyres
studded tyres
tyres used only for racing
tyres whose speed rating is less than 80 km/h
tyres to be fitted only on vehicles registered for the first time before 1 October 1990
tyres whose nominal diameter is smaller than 254 mm or bigger than 635 mm"

On a bit of a sidetrack how do the dunlop R7's compare? apart from being historic and expensive are they comparable to 032's

If the market is too small or the rules just get silly, the tyre makers may just stop making them though regardless of what is legal or not for older cars.

Hopefully not though

So assuming our nice sticky tyres are still e-marked, With not for highway use cast into them where does that stand from a leagal point of view? I bet VOSA have a field day if they pull you over, then spend the next hour getting into a legal wrangle.

Never used them myself but what I have heard off others is the dunlops are not as good, the only reason people use them over the 032's is because they prefer the look of them

I also emailed Yokahama about this and was told the mini A032 is exempt from the bollocks regardless, and that as long as the demand is there, they will continue to manufacture them.

Fantastic news.
wonder if there's enough demand for a wider tyre?

OK so the fact that the Lotus Exige S uses the Yokohama A048R as standard fitment, means that if you want to replace them with an original factory fitted tyre, it will then make the car not suitable for road use??................

What a load of bollox
