They come with the charging circuit integrated into them. It states 15v/20a max for charging so as long as you don't exceed that and the electronics do what they are supposed to do the cells should see what they want to see. (in theory!) |

Good News! The car wont start with a normal battery on it so this whole thread has been pointless!

The good LiFEPO4 batteries do have a control unit so the alternator doesn't fritz them. FWIR the earlier ones didn't.

Well it was fine before i put it away for winter even after a couple of mishaps leaving the ignition on over night and running it flat.. Will give it a go later and see if it still has some charge. Im confident tho.

Looking at the battery at the beginning of the thread, It would appear that according to the suppliers website they should not recieve more than 20A when charging. Considering alternator output could exceed this by 30A or so is this likely to cause issues? On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:

Basically, you don't need to worry about it...

An alternator's Amp rating is just the maximum current it can supply. Most of the time, its providing a small fraction of its rated output. The batteries charging circuit shouldn't pull any more current than it needs. |
