So... more progress on the whistle stop tour of the sprint car during its rebuild..

The tough bit was deciding on colour.. this was the list -

John Cooper Works - Chilli red
Tartan Red
Fiat 500 red
VW red
Vauxhall VXR red.

And a good few weeks of deliberating I decided and the first panel was painted. Was to see how the paint would work, and how it would work on the fibreglass.

This is the result

Came out pretty well, and added a few bits. Ring sticker and boot light. Single skin boot lid is so light. Its an ABS motorsport item and with a bit of reshaping the fit was good. Better than some metal!!!

Had a bit of time playing with the windows and ensuring they fit. Bought the polycarb off ebay and cut it myself. Msa thickness.

Added the sliders I bought from ACW. Great service. Started to look good.

Designed and made my aluminium dash and added some bits to it. Not sure its going to stay like this but will be OK for the time being.

Next bit I had painted was the bonnet. After a lot of messing around with bonnet pins and zues fasteners I was happy with the fit..

i will let the picture do the talking -

Another ABS Motorsport item that fits well. Wings were prepared with a metal bonnet as a template and kept checking against the fibre glass one. Very happy!!

Sooo....photos of the car in paint next - anyone wanna see?? lol

Looking good. As others have said, as long as your not competitive, these things shouldnt matter, but they could quickly become an issue if you start challenging for class wins.

Dash looks good but watch out where you position it as you might struggle to reach any of the switches once strapped in! Also bear in mind that aluminium could reflect the sun right into your eyes just at the wrong moment!

Theres always one sore loser. Or poor scrutineer a friend of mine got kicked out of class because his mini didn`t have bumpers on.Apparently it did not comform to the silohette of a mini!

I had the same concern about the ally reflecting at you, but my whole dash is alloy sheet and never had a single issue.

And as for those bumpers Pete.... I think it looks better with them now!!

Cheers lads. VW Tornado Red. At this stage I was thinking it looks really pink but you'll see in a few updates time what it looks like.

It was painted in June this year. The next few updates start to get a bit more interesting and not just a painted mini lol

Cheers. James

Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

I believe the dash rail is classed as trim so has been removed by many top runners with no comeback.this is why the rear seat squab goes as it is too classed as part of the seat and seats can be removed,
Scrutinisers won't really pick it up but other competitors may , and at least one competitor now knows about it,lol

Cheers and can completely understand if I was questioned. Many other things can be deemed as modifications between wheel centres.. such as removal of dash rail and not leaving metal wings up to the point of the wheel centres. But yes I am aware what the blue book says :)

Lol cheers lads. And cheers Carl. Well yeah can understand to some extend but if it's trim why does the pedal box and steering column hang off it

I'm not going to be quick, and I know at least one person in this thread is my competitor next year hey Harry!
