If your not running a rear beam, have you looked into using one of them? i couldnt believe how light my beam and arms were compared to the subframe setup.

465kg is already very impressive. My cars at 570kg, only difference being I have steel doors, roof and boot floor. I have all the fancy alloy stuff, ie Kad hubs, Kad rear arms, Kad brakes etc. 100kg is a massive difference. I'm planning on replacing my lighten rear subframe for a beam this year, should loose 10kg. I may loose mY Rollcage aswel as it adds 29.5kg. My seat is also steel framed seat at 10kg.

Is that 29.5kg a full cage or rear. My car is at 387kg and Im hoping to offset enough other stuff to not add anything when I put a cage in I seriously doubt it! |

I suppose you'll save a bit on the cage as well given it will not be full size? |

If thats my fault - it wasnt my intention, just wanted to point out that a lot of weight can be removed/give some idea of what can be done aswell as find out the weight of the cage for myself I seriously doubt it! |

Standard steel roof skin weighs 11.3KG. I weighed mine before fitting. Lots of worthwhile reading on C.F. roofs here:

Thanks Andy, I have no plans to fit a carbon roof. Been there done that and regreted it. Just interested how much weight it saved. Obviously not that much by all accounts. Class C 3rd Place Avon 2011 14.18 @101mph |

I know when i removed my folding sunroof to fit my fg one it wouldn't have surprised me if I'd saved nigh on 20kg, is was frigging heavy. Nice in the summer though. Saving loads of weight from a mini goes much deeper than drilling holes and throwing composite panels on if you're aiming for a ridiculously light car. It's not as easy to just take stuff off and bin it like more modern cars because there's not much to be thrown out in the first place. You have to use your ingenuity and get creative. I'm only looking to offset the weight of things I'm adding plus a bit more, 600kg is my target and I doubt I'll find it easy. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

Sorry Lee, Clearly your car is far lighter because it's got loads of genuine carbon fibre. Have you got any before and after weights for roof & doors inc hinges. According to my spreadsheet, carbon doors would loose me another 14kg, 1 carbon seat 5.4kg, Ti beam inc coilovers 11.2kg. Total approx 32kg. Roof 10kg?? So another 50kg at a push. Still no we're near my 500kg target. I'm really looking for a reason, to get motovated again, so please inspire me. more speed 1293 turbo mini-180bhp 171tourque@15psi
