Nice. Like it.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

Nic you have an obsession with wheelies! I would need a lot of rear tire to do that, I am leaning towards the LS engine range as they are all alloy and a nice engine out of the box. They are fairly light for their size so maybe with a light enough front end who knows!

So with 2 weeks off work I decided to crack on with the Torana. I wanted to undo some of the dodgy repairs made at the body shop. The boot floor looks OK but under the sound deadened there were a few holes and some filler. The filler covering some ugly welds but to be honest it's all strong enough so I will leave alone. A few holes were found though.

There are a few rough patches behind the rear wheels, I'm not sure if I'll redo this, repair sections are available but hard to ship from Australia.

Digging out some of the filler, there are a few dents but nothing to warrant this amount amount of filler.

I will have to fix this dent behind the bumper, I could pull it or as it is double skinned I might have to cut an access hole.

I am trial fitting the flares, they're gonna need work too.

I'm going away for a few days but I hope to finish off the boot floor when I come back. Then move onto the rear window and the roof.

Didn't quite get as much done as hoped but still progressed a bit.

I had to trim the rear quarter to accommodate the wider rubber, on the factory race cars this was done quite crudely, I tried to be a bit neater but it will all be covered by the flares anyway.

Before:

After:

Fibreglass still needs a tweak.

I'm still not happy about my diff length (sig that!) so I threw on some 10mm wheel spacers to see what it looked like.

That's about as much sticky outiness as I would want, I will lengthen the diff 10mm per side and I should still be able to run the 295/15/50 tires if I decide to in the future.

I have started the other side. You could plant spuds in the dirt in there!

I agree! A V8 plus boost is my favourite arrangement. I may in the future, there is room for an IC behind the grill and there are plenty of turboed LS1 and LS2 Toranas in Oz.

What I am going to do is put some box section into the floor pan in a few key areas to strengthen things up and tie it all together. I've also put a decent diff and tailshaft in so everything is there to support some decent power in the future if I go that way. I think a turboed LS would be a fairly cheap way to do it.

I'm dry building the car to see what parts I'm missing. I will just say it's a lot easier to work on than the Mini, much more room to access things.

I have started the chassis mods, I've overlayed the original chassis rails with some box and extended this down to the rear suspension mount. This area is known to be a bit flexible and the mounts can pull out of the floor when you've got sticky tires. I've stitch welded these to the floor and the new rails tie these in.

I am in the process of plating up the chassis rails in the engine bay to add more strength, with a bit more work on the rear I'll have much more strength in the car.

A bit more work done, id say that's the rust sorted and nearly all the chassis mods done. I have smoothed the engine bay, the battery will go in the boot and all wiring/brake lines will be hidden. I am going to park this up until summer, when hopefully it will be time to put in a LS2 and T56 combo. That means I'll put a last push on the Mini and have some fun in that for a change!

Thanks for the comments. The colour was supposed to be from an Audi but that was a really expensive paint. I was supposed to get something very similar but in cheaper 2k but it somehow went wrong and became what can only be described as fork-lift yellow! I may change it, I was thinking proper orange or maybe light blue.

I will get a drop tank made, that makes a Torana in my opinion. Maybe something 80-100 litres with baffles and a surge pot.
