Megas used to be great, bit more recent experiences have been bad with the ring lands falling apart at anything over standard boost.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

So what is standard boost on a modified engine?

Did you go back to Omega with the broken pistons?

Can you give hard evidence that it was the pistons that caused the breakage.

What rings were used as I wont be using Omega ring sets

Sorry in advance about al the questions

Anyone heard of OMEGA 1015's?
OP 120 is cast inside the piston.
They are for my non turbo 1071.
I think some people say the rings are rubbish but don't really know for sure.
I contacted Omega but no response*oh well*

if you have an engine that is detonating and you damage a piston it is not the fault of the manufacturer. ANY piston could be damaged due to incorrect running of an engine..

Currently got some plus 20 OE Metro turbo pistons fitted. The rings footed were obtained by matching sizes and spec with known ring sets, took two sets to build a complete set for them one set was for a plus 40 piston

Please tell me how you adapted a +40 ring for a +20 piston.

Trim them the same as doing a normal ring gap , i had to do the same on my first engine for pistons 22357 -

But they surely wont have the same shape as a proper +20 ?

I guess they will eventually wear to a reasonable fit, but I thought I was a bodger and I never considered this approach.

could it be possible to get a measurable amount more ring tension to the bore with a ring that is reduced in size more than normal?

Deminishing returns?

More friction less power. More friction more heat. Remember that the highest losses due to friction is because of ring tension. If anything you should be trying to reduce this friction not increase it.

My point, which I am sure you appreciate, is that if you squeeze a split circle down in diameter it is then no longer a circle.

Dimensionally the rings were identical. Shape wise the rings were identical the only difference was that there was more material in the circumstance due to the fact as mentioned above it was for a plus 40 piston.

the rings at rest ( not in bore / not on piston) were almost identical size

at the time it was suggested by my machine shop as the thing to do,
if its common practice or not i dont know, i no longer uses that place for other reasons anyway
only time i have ever done it and only because ring packs for the +20 22357 were nla

Sorry Brett

Post is ancient but do you remember the dish capacity on the Omega 1015's?

Thanks for all the help.
