...assuming mpi gears are all te same box as any other age a+ engine? Nope apparently mpi drops are stronger than others is there any evidence that they are manufactured differently or made of a different material? I know that some on here have used mpi drops and put plenty of power through without issues. I wonder why rover would invest in 'upgrading' a part that was not a known weak link. the mpi engines were around the same as the spi coopers, and less power than some of the metros made in the 80s. could it be that the mpi drops are the same as other a+ drops, and in fact the a+ drop gears can stand up to more than people have given them credit for? being a helical gear the a+ drop gears themselves should be able to handle plenty of power, its my understanding that people go straight cut to reduce side loading on the bearings. on a side note I have stripped a set of mpi drops of their teeth, not due to the gears though, it was due to idler bearing failure. |

That is also what I thought, but if these can handle the power Robert put through them.... Would be interesting to get to the facts; if only I had a mpi set I am pretty sure I could get our lab to analyse the material properties. Dazed and Confused.... |

Would changing from a gt17 to a t2 make any difference, just with the recent turbo up for sale? Will save getting manifold made etc? But if the gt17 is miles better ill stick with that,

After dropping lucky on a really cheap 1275 I don't think this turbo is going to be a 998, but I think I'll keep my 998 engine for a future play about

Yeah I heard that and I've been reading about the phase 2 since I saw a thread in here, I may make a change depending on budget when engine going together :)
