These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Hopefully getting a full cage built soon, but the guy who was going to do it is going for a knee operation so will be out for a while.

Anyone know somebody good with a pipe bender and a welder?! Down Surrey/London way.

Cage is booked in for the end of Feb. Went with Nickson motorsport instead as the previous guy doesn't seem that interested in my money!

I've chopped out the awful wooden parcel shelf, made a new lip out of grp to bolt on a alloy shelf instead.

Finished product, just need to bolt it in place.

Made a bracket for my new brise alternator and spaced it with a brass spacer. Need to trim some more of the alloy bracket. Nice bit of weight saved.

Bought some seats.

Cheap and cheerful, but they don't weigh to much and are skinny.

Painted my window edges.

Did the rear screen to. Its to hide the seal.

Need to edit my title now as I've got a 1330 engine to bolt a gt17 onto...
Began taking it apart today.

I had thought about not giving it a rebuild, happy I did though as this nut was loose on the layshaft.

Great build! What did you do to paint the edges of the Perspex windows? Just masked it up and used aerosol paint? Looks super tidy :)

Thanks, yep, just masked it. Did it by masking to the edge drawing a line at 12.5mm from the edge then cutting through the masking take with a stanley. Found it easier. Light coats of paint to as it could seap under the tape.

Not touched the car for a while, being dropped of for its cage on the 7th. :).

I am planning on using the 1380 before using the 1330 turbo but at this rate i might just use the turbo and sell the 1380 or keep as a spare.

I got a head of 'trailslife'

reduced its BHP potential and painted it BMC green instead though!

Had a few issues with the primary gear, floating bushes are not meant for most SC gears.

Not knowing that when i bought the floating bush i ended up getting the bush turned down with a small step to allow oil out if it goes over the oil holes. Also modded the oil holes in the gear. Only time will tell how it holds up.

Its fits :)

Stripped the paint of the block. Used rustins strypit, half the price of nitromors seemed to do a good job.

Half way through dry decking the block, just need a new tap.

Tapped out the block holes to 5/16th UNF

Casting marks relieved.

Gear box has come on fast.

Shiny bits...

Changed over to all A+ bits for extra strength.

Genuine 60's steel baulk rings from guess works next to what i removed. Not sure what they were. Some are worn though.

Swiftune layshaft.

Getting there need to shim the layshaft as its just out at 7 tho.

Also pretty much all the other bits have been blasted, lightened and painted. Wok and drop gear casing took forever to blast. Previous owner liked red hammerite to much.

Cheers.

Thanks.

Got a bit more done.
Dropped some weight off my rods. Only done 3 as i'm waiting on the postman. One was not in the best condition.

Need to get them balanced and re-faced (if thats the right word) on the bolt/nut face.

Had to put a recoil in the block. It was the extra stud by the stat. Only had one thread holding the stud in.

Cage is done, i've fixed a few holes he had to make to drop the legs to weld some of it and started rubbing it it down to paint the cage and inside. Going to be hard work painting it. Some very tight spots for the gun!

Its all done in 45mm to keep within the blue book. It's stitched into the existing steel work and the column/pedal box is tied to it.

A leg also comes through the front cross member and spreads the load from the front coilovers. Can also see some of the stitching to existing steel.

Seats tied into the cage for safety reasons in a grp shell.

Hope to get lots of updates coming now i can crack on with it.

What and where did you get that mask mate? What type of filter is on the belt?

Project looks Awsome, get those arches trimmed nicely and it will be one seriously good looking mini!

Thanks Dave.

It's a Devilbiss Finishline Vizi-60 Full Face Air-fed Mask http://bit.ly/Otcf0t I don't remember it costing that much but maybe the price has gone up! The belt parts a pre set pressure regulator with a low air whistle if the pressure drops to low.

I just use a small oil free compressor to feed it with a half decent filter. Big compressor feeds the gun. The bit on the belt has another outlet though if you wanted to feed the gun from that supply.

I'll definately be trimming them down for a nice flush fit.

Some more pictures of the cage.

Manged to get some primer down in the evenings this week and was off today so made the most of it. First coat of paint is done. Not bad for a roller and brush.

I decided on roller and brushing the body as its just grp finish and any areas the gun would be hard to get to on the cage. The small areas on the cage came out ok so i decide to roller and brush the whole cage as well. Need to put another coat on at some point.

Also Primed the bay.

Looking good, will be keeping close eye on the build.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve

MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

It'll be on the road though either way. Could be hard work though!

2nd time lucky! Got loads of runs down the inner wing and some silicone blisters on the first attempt.

Its not perfect as i did zero filler work but its respectable.
