most of it was done by a sanding drum on a bench grinder, 400/800 grit then i went with wet and dry 1000 grit by hand, finished of with a polishing wheel on the bench grinder, for doing the centre of the rod i made up a few hockey stick shaped sticks and glued wet and dry to them took ages but i was waiting for parts
Yes i moved to the darkside

well i have done some work on one rod still need to do the inside tricky bits shall have a go the same way brett did his still plan to have the big end turned down i will finish as much as i can first tho to more or less complete a set so far i have lost 64 grams total weight over a stock rod there are still some tinny scratch lines i need to polish out but i think ill weight until the big end is done for that final polish

I cannot be arsed polishing. Send them for shot peening. Better and faster. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Just polishing the rod will actually weaken it as you have taken away the hard outer skin. You need to get them peened to replace what you have taken away. Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."

Isn't it six of one, half a dozen of the other case? The idea of polishing is to remove any barely visible surface cracks or "V"'s where cracks can begin, also reduces weight and less oil sticks to the surface.
