So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

looks very nice mate, with your water feed to the turbo is there there anything to encourage curculation? I was planning to take the hot side back up to the stat houseing hoping the hot water will go up. yours looks much neater but is there something I am missing?

The turbo core is canted slightly towards the hot side. Cool water from the block rises up to the turbo water jacket inlet which is lower than the outlet. Th eoutlet is connected directly to the rad header tank. During engine shutdown and heat soak, the water in the turbo core gets heated. Hot water rises, heat travels from hot to cold, the rad is the coldest part of the system. This creates a thermo syphon as the hot water travels towards the rad, it draws cooler water from the block. That is how it works on the Saab. No need to complicate things installing pumps. I intend to install a delay off relay on the electric fan, that is energised on key off, to help kool the turbo during initial heat soak

yea I intend to have a similar set up, not planned any fans yet, it was the two hoses on the back of the block that confused me...

It goes into one of the holes I drilled in the tappet chest in the same manor as the head drains. I did think about putting it in somewhere lower down, but it was too far from the turbo in my opinion

That is freaking ingenious! I had never thought of applying that to a car

OK so it has been a while, but things have been progressing, maybe not as fast as I'd have liked, but its slowly coming together. At least doing it this way I am totally concentrating on the jobs in hand rather than rushing it through and not bothering with some stuff just to get it on the road. I am pleased at how well its all going back together, thats mainly down to all the preperation, thought and 'design' over the last three years.

So here is the story so far picking up where i left off the last time.

Cleaning up and painting the engine bay. We were running out of time when we painted the body, so I said just leave the engine bay and I'll do it at a later date. Notice the hole in the inner wing for the intercooler *wink*

The new choke control. also known as 'boost control' *happy*

The engine in its home at ong last

Excellent bonnet and grille fit/ alignment :)

Not far off looking complete

Downpipe. The original idea as can be seen here was to have the downpipe in two pieces with a slip joint behind the engine, but after fitting it to the car, and seeing how much space i still had left behind the subframe, i reckoned i could get it in and out in one piece, so after a tried and succeeded, i bust out the welder and welded up that slip joint *happy*

ECU and engine wiring including the charging and power distribution circuits

Tunnel heat shield with added fibreglass over the Catalytic converter

Exhaust construction. some might recognise the back box, it was Benny's. Ive added an 18" mid section silencer and a 200 cell sports cat. Should be nice and quiet *happy*
