Thats not so bad then, I had ideas of ecu's and turbos being goosed from all that liquid.
I seriously doubt it! |

Just an idle question but would you be allowed to run water injection? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Would it be worth a go Wil for you and Ben? Cheap power, lower charge temps. Surely this can only be a good thing If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I was thinking more of the performance gains rather than the longevity.

As you will see when I sort the videos of bens car, the main disadvantage is low end power. Ben's engine will still take more boost, but ultimately the plan is to 7-port it. Based on all the info I have, the 5-port will always be at a disadvantage. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Interesting that it is No. 4 that failed though. Even after you've modified the cooling feed to the head. Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."

I agree, it may well have been weakend during the initial over heating. As I have said already, there is no sign of det , it is purely a piston failure. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I think you have hit the nail on the head mate. leave a bit more meet on them for your set up then
On 9th Jul, 2012 wil_h said:
haha, yeah, port robbing!!! There is no fault with det or ignition or fuelling that has caused this. It is purely that the top of the piston was too thin owing to me machining too much dish in it. So water inj. not really needed. the pistons in Bens engine are identical and 5 seasons old. My extra boost/power/rpm has just exceeded the limits of the cast piston. Interesting, guessing that was on the same boost? Did you not see how much more boost it enabled you to run?

bad luck guys, lucky escape in a lot of ways. Sorry to drag this OT I've tried water injection, I found it lowered my ACT about 50deg, but I lost power, I also tried 50/50 meth water mix, got some of the lost power back but still less than ranning without. I found this strange after all the reading on varius forums. This was 2 years ago. Since then I have spoken to a few engine builders and race car teams and also have same opionion on WI, your better off spending your money on better matched turbo and more effeicent intercooler core.
