The rad you are using there is around tubes with a piece of twisted plastic through it and has a high flow rate. you need to look for the flat tube type this can have tanks removed and then you can make your own. then you will be able to put all the fitting where it suits your car. you can't weld on the round tube type because the end plates are crimped on over the tubes with a rubber gasket.

looking good I've had to change things on mine a few times now but thanks to people on here I'll get there in the end and maybe it will be a better job.

good luck

We've just swapped the cinq rad on John's clubman. He had the really cheep one which just had big tubes in the core. It didn't cool all that well as the coolant got through it too quickly. Worth checking yours. You can see the big tubes through the hose stubs.

what did you swap it too? ive been saying mines crap for months but it took the piss when i was on the road lol ive been eyeing up an ally mk11 golf rad for it

Thanks for the comments so far guys, giving me a bit more mojo to try get it done - paint going on in next couple of days, then quick rebuild so I can get it running in & set up the ignition before the hillclimbs start here.

Gonna get it started with that radiator & look out for another, will keep a close eye on the temps..

More updates after a few hours in garage tonight:

Engine steady on O/S, made a bracket up on Friday to make it double shear again as per original..

Slight cock up on N/S as attached bracket to bulkhead too far over towards centre - had to remove outer two bolts, swivel it round on inner bolt & re-drill - sitting nicely now though and original holes ideal if I ever use elec water pump as it'll be better positioned to mount to blanking plate...

All fits in real nice with bottle in place, fuel lines perfect either side, no pipes rubbing...

Plenty to do tomorrow..!

Few more bits done, radiator mounted (JUST clears standard starter - had to swing motor round and re-drill/tap bellhousing), coolant pipes cut and fitted, lcb & carb in place....

Guys the software is called VeSys, by Mentor Graphics - its a doddle to use, i've only ever used the trial version of it, which you can download from their website here - http://www.mentor.com/products/electrical-...rial-evaluation

More done, fitted my double shear bracket to top steady - had to make up bracket, shave piece out of dry deck adaptor, fits nice...

Lower gearbox steadies from Minispeed...

Cage in (apart from door bars for a minute) - thanks to my gf who got roped into helping me *carefully* get the rear hoop in!

Gear selector in too...

Quite a bit of slack in the gearchange once it was together, gonna change the bush in the front of the selector housing and made up a brass bush to take up slack where rod joins box - anyone else find this with internal linkages?
