Sounds good, there's mini vs beetles at easter, doubt mine will be finished as I'm on a long waiting list for a Head, but I'll deffo be there in my van, probably camping, always a good laugh if we get a few together.

ekkkkk !! benny you should have left those manofold water heated pipes on and utilised them ........it means you wont get a heat soak from the exhaust manifold and downgrade your fuel octain to that of water

if you can buddy re instate them and plumb them back in

There's no way when I've been for a drive, stop take the bonnet off & touch the manifold that it's anywhere near 90 degrees or whatever your water temp would be if it was going through it. I'll leave mine un-plumbed. :)

well that would be the deciding factor, whether the water was hotter or colder than the inlet manifold.

I dont know how you'd check for certain, but i know mine gets pretty damn hot even without the turbo on?

i tryed it on mine water would boil the instant it touched the inlet manifold, i will be putting mine back on for a test at least

I have always thought the water temps would be higher than the inlet, I have always known it as heated manifold rather than cooled manifold, it has been fine upto now so its staying unplumbed, makes it 10x easier to get to the manifold nuts too.

i used to think the same untill recently, i can hold my coolant pipe when its fully up to temp but cannot touch the inlet manifold imo it woundt have alot of affect on the inlet temps because the surface area/time in the inlet but heat soak must play some part,

The only proper way would be to measure temps with and without water, well volunteered Brett :p

There isn't enough surface area to make much difference to air passing through it if its heated or not. Isn't it heated to stop fuel condensing on it?

its heated to water temps about 90 odd degrees, mine must be 120+
i can log inlet temps but the only problem being my sensor is before the inlet manifold imo it will make very little difference to the inlet tempsanyway but the surface temps on the inlet are needlessly high, i think thermal wrapping the exhaust manifold would have a greater benefit

i dunno, my whole opinion of it has changed recently im now in favour of putting water through the manifold, i think this whole subject will always be split, there will always be the for and against but for the sake of keeping the manifold temp down why not? on my engine without the plumbing the inlet manifold is hotter than with it

My inlet is cold to the touch after a blast. I can't even touch the rad.

Mine will stay disconnected unless that changes.

Looks like its down to personal preference then, I will be wrapping the exhaust manifold anyway, mainly because I can get some real cheap and my manifold is tatty as fuck, just saves me getting some vht paint.

made an order with med yesterday for my offset head, going to be 4-6 weeks though :(

not much to show but progress nevertheless...

fettled my adapter plate




started on my breathers today and made this,




i was going to weld on a tube from the top of the timing cover like simon did, looked at mine and realised simon is using an electric waterpump, theres no way i can do mine like that, i may have to come off the side, not sure yet.
