Managed to get hold of three 12g295's off ebay for £250! i will be selling two of them so i can make most of that back :)

One of them is standard and unskimmed (shotblasted one)
The red one has double valve springs and has been ported and skimmed and the green one is standard apart from skimming.

Can i nick the valves and springs from the red one and put them in the unskimmed one? (i think im planning on getting unleaded valve seats done if that makes any difference)

Thanks
Iain

yes you can as long as they are not oversize ones or the seats in the unskimmed one have not been cut for larger than those valves. Be carfull of guide wear or tightness and type if the valves are a different grade they may need bronze guides but that will be obvious from the head you take the valves from. Hope that makes sense

chances are yes but some people fit bronze guides anyway but is depends on the valve material and/or stem treatment. Carfully check the heads for cracks as they are quite common.

After doing some reading, it seems that only some engines will benefit double valve springs. Assuming that both sets of valves fit in the head that im using (which i still have to check) do you think it would be best to use the double or single springs?

Thanks in advance :)

I will use singles.

Might be wrong but for me, doubles are for longer timing camshaft for high RPM wich a turboed engine is usualy not

My kent 266 came with double valve springs so I put them in the Cyl head figure they were appropriate for the cam

STD turbo heads had double springs I thought?

Actually yes, go for the setup that is recommanded by your camshaft dealer.
Now if you use a short cam like a standart Rover non MG item, singles should be good enough.

I am going for a set of singles on top of a MD 256, not one of the wildest in the book ...

So for an mg metro cam (similar to 266??) doubles would be best?
