What size/power compressor is the minimum for painting and running an air fed mask?

size just means how many times you will have to stop between spraying for the pressure to build back up but id go for at least 100 150 ltr tank, not sure with running the mask as well but i only use a fine dust mask when spraying

Two issues,

cfm (how much air it actually pumps) and receiver capacity (what reserve it has when demand is greater than the air being pumped).

I've got this one

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...-air-compressor

It's one of the biggest you can run from a single phase supply (not the biggest, but close) and even at 14cfm it rarely stops pumping when I'm spraying with an air fed mask.

It was a hell of a lot cheaper when I bought it :)

Thanks. That's a bit out of my price range...

If i have to spend a fair whack on a compressor (before i build my new garage) its probably cheaper just to let rick do it when he paints the shell....

Might be worth trying to borrow a couple of compressors if you can andy, im sure somebody can help you out! One for the gun and another for the mask, you can then place the one for the mask out of the way of the spraying.

I've already got a small one, but a small as a die grindercan use more air than it can supply

Thanks Simon. I've got a crappy spray gun and don't mind buying a shutz gun, probably be quite useful

The mask doesn't use all that much air, and remember when spraying you are down on pressure so not using so much volume out of the tank anywhere. My compr is about 10 CFM and copes OK.

Tom, depends on how high you set the flow to the mask - I set it quite high because I wear glasses and they steam up on low flows. It will all be down to individual uses but I would suggest 12-14cfm (and a large receiver) is a good starting point to aim for.

Rod, I am talking from my experience with my own setup, mine is a pro mask with its own carbon filter and reg, so to say you need 12-14 cfm in my experience with my mask and my compressor is not the case.

Tom, just pointing out 12-14cfm is my experience. Mine is a straight air fed mask (no filters) with the flow/pressure regulator on the belt. And I like a high air flow because of wearing glasses. Also I use a high volume spray gun.

Every setup will be different but I learnt a long time ago not to scrimp on the capacity of a compressor.

Better too much than too little :)
