I had a look at my s/c spares Robert. unfortunately they are of no use chipped teeth and worn out synchro cones!

Will you be doing anything with the centre main?

I got teased with this "hybrid" naming but it is not the car that is hybrid, it is (only) the engine ...

A little disapointed ...

No the 998 strap is smaller (the holes closer together) as the cap/bearings/journals are smaller.

Does this mean 'project completion syndrome' has afflicted the fiat head engine?

Make your own strap. It's a bit of steel with two holes drilled in it and one face machined flat. Can't be that hard for a man of your talents...

haha ,no that project was complete p25 when it ran ,p27, in car working ,was postponed due to lack of money and other projects being prioritised ,i have now gathered the parts to go ahead with it when i can afford it .which is where the other projects come in .

andy , i think i'll run with no strap and see what happens ..

Sometimes theres a big hole over the centre main on these blocks, they always seem to be the ones I get anyway... the blocks can crack here so if the hole is there just clean it up to get rid of stress risers,

Has anyone ever seen the block crack (and not because it threw a rod), never mind an old A Block with or without air above the center main? I don't think its an issue, just scaremongery.

I supose if you did use the block with the hole above the center main and the block cracked, you might assume it was because of the hole, but then if you had a block without the hole, and the block cracked, what was the cause then?

I supose its like using a steel crank over a worked factory crank, as an engine builder would you risk it? (conversation been had in another topic)

Ive never seen a cracked block there, but heard of it happening on the ones with the hole,

for 5 mins with a grinder i know what i'd do scare mongering or not.

So what manifolds are you going to use with this Robert?

To get a 5 port to breath well at 8k is going need some wave action.

i'm imagining a tunnel ram based on my model paul ,maybe with a variable volume butterfly between runners.
ex wise poss something above the carb with as short runners as i can make .

First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on a carb?

well ,the crank in the block looked a wee bit poorly ..

so i hoicked out the crank from the auto engine ,now i had advice that the auto crank might be different , but i can't see any differences ..

snout looks great ,

part no ,this sounds familiar for some reason ..

nive deep fillet radius ,with no lip..

and another sexy pistons picture cos i can lol

so all quite encouraging .

what does your source say is different.

I bought an auto engine for its crank figuring it would be nice and unabused, and it was the only part of the engine that was fucked as the oil pump had come loose!
