Not sure if I like the colour, but same lathe/mill as mine in the background.

I wish I had the matching pillar drill too.......

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

It's quite a good drill, better if I ever bolt it down...and a bargain compared to the lathe!

The colour was the result of being forced to finally make my mind up. Too many green/orange/red/yellow minis... bluey purple - it's the new black.

I must admit I like this better too.. (grumble, mutter, expense, more bloody work)

The purple was night blue (RAL5022), this blue is a HMG 2K SC601 colour called Ariston Blu. It's quite cheap (about £20/l) but covers as well as the much more expensive stuff from dupont etc.

Little update.. took lots of stuff back to bits to get to plumbing and wires and fit the oil cooler. A few snaps for your viewing pleasure (assuming the links work..).

Also a thanks to apbellamy for his generous donation of a bit of bent pipe that helps me out no end.

I even swapped the brake calipers round so the bleed nipple are a the top, always useful.

Next job is getting the downpipe to fit properly... should be fun.

To do list...

Downpipe fitting
Exhaust - make/fit
Dashboard wiring
Fit rear lights properly with seals...
Fit fuel tank
Connect gear linkage
Figure out/make a better way to hold fuel rails onto injectors
Fit rollcage
Headlining / carpet
Paint/fit doors
Paint/fit boot lid
Bleed brakes
Buy seats...

Few more weekends I reckon..

Update...

Exhaust made. No boxes. I'll noise test it then decide what needs to go in.

Fuel system finally all tightened and leak free.

Dash wired...

65 psi oil pressure confirmed cranking...

Fan and fuel pump wires swapped (turn on ignition and the cooling fan primed!)

It's the big start up and see tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Few more photos on the photobucket site. Link is in the original post.

The big start up didn't go exactly as planned. The fuel system that was leak free developed a leak around the base of one of the injectors. It only happens when the injector is open, hence not spotting it before. After some careful looking I can see that one of the injectors isn't parallel with it's counterpart meaning the seals don't work. Got to whip off the inlet and do a bit of cutting and welding to get them straight. I don't want to risk a bodge with high pressure fuel so close to the exhaust... should be looking good for next weekend but it means I'll be missing out on any drag strip fun. Ho Hum.

Right then, an update finally. Sorted all the problems out with fuel leaks and various other bits and bats. Spent a few days running it and getting a basic tune. To cut a very long story short, the inlet design worked great on part and full throttle but at very small openings or the idle it was rubbish. Never really got to the bottom of exactly what was going on but I think the fuel was basically coating the walls of the plenum and causing massive AFR differences between 1/2 and 3/4 at low speeds.. also caused problems going on and off the throttle.

At least its another design tried, tested and ruled out as a good way of doing things, but not for the reasons I thought. Which is interesting in it's own way.

So, never to be defeated or do anything quite the same way as the perceived wisdom I have redesigned the inlet and am almost ready to give it another try... wish me luck!

Quick test today to make sure it moved.. it did. Now more for tuning, boost (running all of 2-3 psi here), wheels pointing right way, brake bias sorting, oh yes and a bonnet.

Even fixed the crunch into reverse. Clutch needed bleeding.

A link to a few seconds of noise. Those drop gears are loud.

Yes I noticed that too. I'll recheck the clearances. Although I'm guessing at what they should be with the 1.5 rockers. I'm making the assumption it's original divided by 1.25 (standard rocker ratio?) times 1.5.

What are others running?

Passed MOT today, and the best part of the whole process - free tax disc ordered online. That will never get old!

Pictures to follow, along with some in car footage when I rig up the camera and go for a spin.
