Well got the engine running last weekend. Turned out just to be a bad earth. Typical. So cleaned them all up and now she finally runs.

Had all the shit stripped off my block this past week, Cheers James (Shellspeed)

After paint I will start rebuilding it slowly whilst still trying to do the mini itself.

Also re-done my dash this week

and then checking everything fits before paint.

Will hopefully get chance to paint the dash tomorrow or Friday before I take the little lady away on our honeymoon which she's waited long enough for *laughing*
Got a nice crinkle effect black paint to do the dash with. Will post a pic up when it's all finished.

wrinkle paint.... do it somewhere warm!

ie spray it and put it in the oven on low heat... not when the missus is around though cos it fucking stinks!

I did a test piece a while ago and it definatly needs heat to help it along, how long would you leave it in the oven Joe?
Missus already unhappy im painting an engine in the spare bedroom, ha ha she's got years of this to look forward too, may as well try and get her used to it.

probably half hour will be enough, just till it wrincles, then it can go somewhere else to dry.

Ive also used a hot air gun, but it tends to not be uniform.

pre heating then spraying ca work on stuff thats big enough to hold heat for a while.

Hmmm, the ally is only about 1.2mm thick so might not be the best for holding heat, will probably give it the half hour afterwards

Ok so I got the dash painted, and if anyone is considering using wrinkle paint I would advise to do a few test pieces first, I found that when I put it in the oven to cure it removed most of the wrinkles. I found it best to let it air dry, then cure it in the oven a few days later. Guessing it probably depends on the brand of paint.

Well block is back from the machine shop after having liners fitted and bored to size. Didn't need that expense after the washing machine broke to be honest.
Also got a nice week back up north working on the mini. Exhaust fitted today, hopefully get the new dash wired in tomorrow, maybe monday beer depending.

AAARRRRRR the car I've been building for the past few years is finally in for an MOT. Expecting it to fail on something but I'd like to know what. Had a good productive week sorting lots of the little jobs out. Fingers crossed it's not to bad. If it passes I think you'll see my smile from space.

Failed on no rear lights. (Loose connections)
Ball joint
No rubber on brake pedal....

Safe to say I might get it through test next time I'm home.

Took the car for MOT yesterday, and it PASSED. Go pick up my tax disc soon then have a little drive around town in my new turbo mini... So happy right now, been building this thing on and off for 10 over years. She's still nowhere near finished and some tatty bits here and there from when I started and had less skill than now. But at least I cn enjoy a little mini driving again, its been a few years since i owned one.

Oh and for anyone loosing motivation, just stick at it. The smile at the other end is totally worth it. *happy*

Not any more, recently been posted to Wattisham. Middle of nowhere

Some pics as requested

She looks ok but actually can't drive it yet because the taxation class was wrong on the car, so waiting for the dvla to send my tax disc *angry*
But also driving it is quite a scary expereince at the moment. The suspension geometry and tracking is all over the place. But once i have tax that shouldn't take too long to sort out.
