All looks like a nice project, but you won't make 160 with an M45, many have tried, all have failed.

It's nice to Simon personally signing his heads. I agree that the CR can't be right.

It will be a semi daily drive. We have a ZR for going to work/general crap and Vaderand the Scamp for shows or when I fancy a good blatting :) I've been pre-warned the drops are bloody loud and I'll probably need ear plugs and my ICE will be pointless unless stationary *happy*

I'm only going by what Simon tells me at the moment, he's the engine builder and I trust him to get it right. The head is going off to him sometimes this week so I'll get some pics when it's finished and I collect it.

Wil_h, just because you haven't seen it achieved doesn't mean it can't be done. I don't believe in 'can't' so we'll see when it's finished and on the rollers shall we? :)

I've had someone ask if he could rub his finger in my bore so asking for a flash of my chambers is mild *hehe!*

quite right . the m45 can make 240 bhp on a 16v 1.6 .so i think 160 is very doable.

Doable, but much more difficult than a turbo.

Search for threads by "johnnsti". He had no end of problems, particularly with the part throttle bypass.

We are all sceptics on here and like to see hard facts. I am sure you will show us a print out of the rolling road results when you have it finished.

This is something that I don't recall Morspeed has ever done. He has some big claims though.

i think hes got the solution to it paul , just needs taking to the logical conclusion in development to cure it all.

all I'm saying is that to get that sort of power you need pressure ratios way above those on the compressor maps supplied by Eaton

Personally if I was starting from scratch and wanted 160bhp, I wouldn't choose an M45, seem like you're just making hard work for yourself.

I'm always happy to be proved wrong, it's not like its never happend before!

I thought that all the MINIs with 240 bhp binned the M45, that's why they are so cheap on ebay?

Yes, but given the challenge that Slark struggled with, do your really think that Morespeed can pull it of?

Remember this is the guy that uses M8 screws in 5/16 UNF holes, plugs blocks with aluminium and can't fit valve seat inserts *angry*

I understand what people are implying, but there's a whole other post for the morspeed debate. This one is about a members car, let's try and keep it that way.

I agree Andy, nothing to do with Morspeed, I just don't think it's worth trying to change the laws of thermo dynamics.

My OH talks to John on TMF, he's finally got his running right now I think, he's been giving us advice on coolers and mountings, etc.

I can see why people are sceptical, I am when it comes to people claiming power output but like I said, it's a predicted figure, not a factual figure but of course I'll post up my print out once it goes for a rolling road. I'm not sure if it's just me but I'm picking up some sarcasm/bad feeling in some of these posts. I don't know wether it's aimed at me or because I use Morspeed but it's not exactly very friendly.

Not aimed at you at all, just lots of bad feeling for Morspeed. To many people have been promised stuff they never got and ended up in court trying to get money back.

Andy, I trust you weren't referring to me - I carefully avoided any use of the "M" word.

Claims can mean many things whether it be BHP figures or outstanding CCJs *happy*

I can understand that some people don't like him or the company because of issues or things they have been told but this is a thread about my car and if I'm honest but in the nicest possible way, I get pretty fed up of some of the comments I get be it on a forum or in person when I mention that Simon does my engine work.

I'm sure some of you would feel the same if someone was slating a friend of yours.

welcome to the forum - should be a neat motor when its finished - are you going to run an SU or inject the motor?

good to see you have a plan in mind to stick to! - do you know if anyone has come up with a way of getting the carb near the charger inlet? (other than a hole in the bonnet) as this will make the part throttle driving experience so much nicer - fuel mix finds it hard to climb hills!

If Carling made Mini engines

It's a blow through so the carb will stay at the back. I'd read quite a few threads, etc on suck through systems and there was a consistent comment about lack of throttle response. Blow through is abit harder to set up and more expensive but I like power and it'll give me more so it's worth it *happy*

good luck with the project. I'm a big supercharger fan, but I know its not the solution for ultimate power.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
