This morning went to the scrapper to weight my Mini: 700kg with an empty tank :( . It's a little but heavy thing.
Where can I cut 50kg ?

Bitumen sound deadening off the floors. And the rest of the sound deadening around the car.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

It's my "ordinary" street car, I can not remove roof and doors :) . Heater is a useful thing in winter, even if I admit the turbo near the wall heats feet very efficiently.
I'll replace glass windows. Sound isolation went away by itself years ago.

50kg it's a lot.
How heavy are seats ?

700kg sounds about right to me for a daily road car.

Simple things are:
Alloy Calipers
Minifin rear drums
GRP Bonnet
GRP Boot
Lighter Wheels

After that you either start losing metal or comfort or both and spending lots more money.

I weighed every panel in the past and hood and trunk were very light, not so much to gain especially for the price you pay parts and painting.
Doors are bloody heavy, as usually, but without roll cage it's too dangerous to empty them, a part windows.

Yea, alloy drums are nice, expensive though. I was thinking about them.

alloy door skins are feather lite compared to steel.

There is nothing on the mini that weighs much. It is all little gains here and there. If you are looking for a big weight gain it is not there. If you want to save 50kg you have to save 1kg 50 times. Or more likely 500g 100 times.

You are certainly right.
And even if I save 30kg it's still more than half of weight of my daughter who will be on the passenger seat at track days.

What about a lightweight battery, that will save a fare amount

700 kg, that is odd, mine was 650 with the MOT guy aboard (and very few gas)

I converted the DaN given where they do the suspension / brake tests.

It was rotten but I can't believe it was this much ...

'87 mini without brake assist and some crap in the boot ...

Yea mine is '88 carb. I don't think turbo and brakes add 50kg, turbo weights 4kg actually.

Well I managed to tune the car a little bit today, before it rains again. I'm getting 75hp at 0.65 bars but power falls down after 6000rpm, strange. Did not have time to continue, laptop battery was empty. Now I feel I'll have to wait another week before this focking rain stops. This is the first time I see such a crappy weather here.

All right, I double checked in my papers and couldn't find the MOT paper I am refering to.

So this could just be wet dreams ...

I'll post next time ( will be the one of my '92 brake assisted ...)

One more question, I red somewhere you use powerdyn so : is your power readings at the wheels ?

For the power stop, if the bottle neck is not head nor turbo, might be IC ?

I'm using powerdyn connected to the 12v ignition output of the ECU (going to the external amplifier).

I don't understand where is the bottle neck. IC flows 150hp on Maserati at 1bar. Power tops at 85hp at 0.8bar, and torque falls down as if the flow was limited somewhere. Hope I'll find.

My new battery is 6.5kgs lighter, you can save about 12kgs fitting polycarbopnate windows. You can easily save 10-15kgs on seats, and doors up to 25kgs for the pair...all add up to a max of 58.5kgs and none of which should effect the practicality of the car! :)

Likes been said, things on theyre own dont weigh much but add them all up and you end up with a fairly big saving! 1kg might be the difference between 14.9 and 15secs 8-)

Rear beam axle and coil overs is a good start. I can pick the backend of my car off the floor with a bit of effort.

Yes polycarbonats and seats are in the pipe. Will look for a battery.
Doors: I don't have roll cage, doors are my protection. But I'm thinking more and more to replace the door internals with a thick epoxy (what's the term ?) structure.

Same for rear frame, this is what protects me from rear shocks. If I remove it I'll have to put something else instead.
I've got springs in place of cones.

You could always fit an ally skin to the doors, and leave the inner skin in position. The majority of the weight saving is in loosing the winder mechanism and glass window, and the outer skin. I can't see it being that much weaker at all. *oh well*

springs as in coil springs or some bike like springs and damper setup ?

I can't do the maths but somebody on here probably will.

What if you have too big a cam and you're boosting in the exhaust ?

What was the CR ?

Ho and 85 is not bad, remember the Y10 turbo was doing that.

What is your throttle setup and size ?
