Very neat. Does it use a lot of water?

Nope the water consumption has been good, I was worried about the 1L tank, but it got form chester to London to Brighton and back without a top up. But on a tack it will be a little more utilised... Shame I won't get chance to find out at this years action day.

Well I avoided turning the car into a bomb today. The outlet for the petol tank had cracked and was leaking fuel into the boot.

Luckly I found it before the scatter in a couple of weeks..

I must of happened during the respray last year

So the car is now running its original short range tank :)

How are the rubber joints working - are they proving any more reliable than the nylon type?

I have the old type joints on my van (in pieces at moment) and just wondering if they will take much extra power or whether to swap to pot joints.

The rubber joints have been fine for the power I'm running.

should see 12 PSI now, as part of the upgrade its now got a 40mm carb that has

- A slighlty better orientation
- A slighlty larger choke
- piped breathers
- A better connecting pipe that should stop it splitting.

After loving the seats in Mark GTT's car that he sold a while back I have been on the look out.. picked some up at a reasonable price.

Not that happy with the subframes as a lot is on show (The seats are small) but then they are a simple mix of mini and original, they are strong if a little on the heavy side..

Yep they were sol with the original subframes to which I have bolted the "mini" bits from a mini subframe so all works as lotus intended.

Very comfy so far for my fat arse but them I have only sat in the garage making brum brum noises. Off to the rolling road on the 11th so will get to drive it about then.

The benefit from a drop bracket.

I just need a new engine mount as the old one fell to bits when I took it off, but then I think it was original... Well it never been changed since I have owned the car in the
Dt 20years

Not sure the last owner thaught much or oil chnages

A bit if spanner work

The idler shat itsself

I presume the case for the box is scrap... I do have another to look at.

it can be repaired but a full strip down would be required and some machining required. you have to make a top hat shaped repair piece and get it letin to the gearbox case

All the stuff on the sump plug is the swarf from all those smooth gear changes at Coombe *wink*

I would just pull apart every box you have and then build the best bits into the best case, replacing everything you can't get from good used parts.

I have a pre A+ idler and transfer casing if you are short.

Well the other gearbox casing hasnt suffered the same problem but, the laygear has a lot of movement whilst still atached to the box , so thee must be some serious wear.

Anyway I continued to strip the same engine that I split last night.

So two gearboxes to choose from

The the thrust washers were serously word, they were stamped STD so whilst the engine and box had been split it hadnt been rebuilt.

The main bearing faces are more than a little worn..

Nose

Rod

So I'm going to take it to an engine shop next week for assesment...

I turned my attention to the engine in my car....

I took the head off because of this:

The water in the rad was bubbling however it got me home form combe (220miles) after stopping every 60 miles or so.

The gasket had no easy to find damage I then found this

I also found the boost guage hose split where it joins the inlet manifold... so that wouldn't have exactly given me the correct AFR.... so I could have been looking at liquid pistons
