Looking good, but I'd be tempted to ditch the 2.7 final drive for a 2.9

2.9 will be more more then enough.

ive given myself a target of 4 weeks, but im sure it will take longer on the wiring side of things as i jjust dont understand wiring haha :)

the FD is already in. if i dont like it it can be changed when i get a SC gearbox as thats the only thing i need now enginewise.

its the fist time doing sills, i dont think id have the guts to attempt it without someone helping first time round, i am learning alot about welding and bodywork of neil tho. :)

cheers for the comments.

well made this, but not sure where i mounting, whether to swap dials with my centre binacle or even wether to paint it.

however there is bad news aswell. the shell is welded and safe for this summer now, but its life is limited i feel. to keep it on the road after this summer will require a major overhaul with a fair few new panels. so ive decided to keep on the lookout for a decent mk1 or clubby shell, or non runner and cut my losses.

very gutting (good memories in it, and it used to look stunning) but ill still have my lovely new turbo lump :) and any other good bits back off the old girl. the interior is good so ill make some money back on that.

for now ill focus on this summer tho and have a good last summer in it. :)

then there will be a new 1380 turbo thread in an older car.

ill start saving when this one is all payed up. ;D

well more progress :)

brought myself this

and built this pretty much all up (brakes are connected now, was just waiting to get washers before i did them up)

all it needs now is the 2 spikey washers for the subframe to brake line nuts. and 1 bolt for the brake line on the left caliper, oh and 1 more flange bolt lol.

its all in now but i forgot to take pictures of this major step >_<

i also got the remains of my centre dash today at himley (2 early type vents, the black dash surround with vent holes and the dash floor if you can call it that, got 1 cooper ashtray and 1 non cooper ashtray, couldnt resist as the non cooper one was only pence lol. and also got a 4 clock (52mm) braket complete with 4 clocks for the grand sum of a tenner, so i chucked the 4 old clocks away and started to spray it up body color. i will get pictures of all this as soon as i place it in.

im getting there, just about ready for my engine now. :)

well. heres a very small taster of the engine *tongue*:

130mph centre clocks are now in bar the bottom bit. however the photo is aweful lol, i must get a better camera. (how scary are those wires tho :( ):

clocks face left slightly as iff they are from a left hooker but ive been told by 2 people now a centre binacle is a centre binacle, there is no right of left handed... oh and if anyone has a spare mk1 heater lying around please pm me so i can swapsie or buy it *wink*

and heres the confirmations he's back on his wheels, riding high and waiting for the new lump :) :

:) wooop, thinking i may get the spray cans on it some time soon. *wink*

remember i mentioned i got the diall pod from himley with 4 dials for a tenner well...

the 4 dialls got binned:

and the pod got stripped down and sprayed up, from a crusty old thing to this (body coloured to match the top dash rail):

and with 2 of the dialls stategically placed:

this will be getting self tapped directly behind the wheel as im ditching the ally one i made. got a fuel preesure guage on order through mra and am yet to decide wether the 4th hole will be a landba or an ammeter. :)

its nice when you start to see progress :)

started on the bodywork.

filled the quater where it was welded

stone chipped the sills and then base coated wherever primer and sontechip was showing.

before anyone comments on how dull it is its because i havnt laquered it yet. thats a job for another time. :)

well its all one colour now:

then i fitted my little diall pod, steering column bracket (the sheer bolt was a bugger to get out!) and connected a few wires, so its now looking like this:

seats back in properly aswell:

my new john flan plenum:

*happy*

john also modified one end on my intercooler and added some brackets for me:

both been done to a superb quality, would recomend his services to anyone. *wink*

and thats that for now...

*happy*

update...

started a rebuild on the carb (its an 87 model if anyone is interested lol *tongue*):

with help from martain at mra (who also polished the dashpot and gave me lots of tips and info on doing the carb etc, which is very apreciated *wink* ) i dismantled the carb and then took the main bits home for a clean:

i got off all the gunk i could after it had a long bath lol.

ive got a full rebuild kit from mra aswell so as soon as my polo is MOT'd again ill be popping down to have the bushes put in and then the rebuild can commense. :)
