Bought some ali plate and did some good old drilling and filling.

Im surprise how nicely it turned out and its so much lighter that the std steel one.
It was then fitted to the mock up engine and the bottom pulley was installed and the holes marked for the oil seal holder. No pic as i was to busy concentrating, sorry.

Im thinking of changing the counter sunk holes to counter bored, that was each holder will have a slight amount of play and will allow the oil seals to centralise on there respective runners and hopefully reduce the chance of oil leaks.

So long as you have a good gasket and/or sealer behind each plate, allowing them to "float" while being tightened up to let the oil seals centralise themselves seems a very good idea IMO.

Same as the standard timing chain cover - the right way to fit one is to put the bolts in loosely, then fit the crank pulley/damper to let the seal in the cover centralise itself around the pulley, then tighten the bolts..... How many people actually do that ???

(waits patiently for every one to say "of course we do" :) )

looking a good build, i have a similar problem with the head bolts, so just deciding what to do.
On you head you have three small water holes that need welding, otherwise it will not be a complete dry deck, i missed these and had to have them done.

Cheers philc, I did notice that they havent been welded. Ill sort it out at some other stage.

Tiny update.
Top plate has oil seal holes in it now.

Waiting for my crank damper to arrive from the UK and then the final balancing can be done, once thats sorted I can check if my plates and pullies fitand line up.......

Another small update.

Jackshaft oil seal holder with its o-ring in place.

And then I had a play with the macro setting on the camera

One of the valve covers bobins with its o-ring.

Took the top plate to a friends place to cut out on his bandsaw.......

Dont think the bandsaw is going to be the same ever again.

Next was to sort out a timing belt, which proved rather difficult as I measured it incorrectly but a quik search on the net provided me with the correct number of teeth. So....

All the pulleys line up except the crank pulley which needs some shiming but I did expect that.
The next step is to get a mock-up engine and gearbox in the car so I can start working out where the plenum, intercooler, exhaust manifold and turbo will go.

Well late last night i got the mock-up engine and gearbox in the car.

The car is still super dirty but I really wanted to see what it looked like.

Not much space for the turbo. Im going to mount the turbo facing up, similar to Joe's 7 port and the Don.

Apart form that Ive started to realise that there is very little space to play with but Ill get more stuck in this evening. Maybe give it a wash......

Cheers Andy. The car has been standing for about four years so its alittle dusty.

Anyway here is my first attemp at a CAD version of the plenum. Looks cool but its ti high and will need a massive bulge in the bonnet.

So I moved on to the exhaust mani and the positioning of the turbo.

Like it was made to fit.
