Ok
got to ATspeed this morning to a warm welcome and a nice cup of tea!

1st impression of the place is good the dad Alan and the two sons take a quick look over the car .

All 3 of them are quite impressed with the car , allthough commented on silly things like hose clips wrong way round etc , they were being very fussy..lol

dumped the oil as it was a little bit fuely checked the plugs coolant etc and fired the beast up .

Also fitted a 6 position electronic boost controller (nice peice of kit )
after a bit of fettling the car was strapped onto the rollers , by now i,m crapping myself!

Did a couple of slow runs only to find the car hasnt got first and second gears and very difficult to select reverse.

15 minutes later and with a bit of adjustment , removal of some offending powdercoating on the gear linkage and we have all gears .....phew!

Back to the setting up all was going well till i see sparks comming from under the car !!

On further investigation we find the discs rubbing on the steeering arms and the hotter they got the worse the sparks were, so there we called it a day on the rollers.

Alan then sorting out some hoses and stripping the carb to fit a base profiled needle .
the engine sounded strong and seems to run well allthough the fueling is miles out so, while its there they will machine the discs refit and finish setting the mini up.

Bit pissed off i didnt get to drive it the Mot today, but as its a new build i cant complain, allways going to be a few teething problems .

does look a great car, I don't envy you having to keep it that clean.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

i prefer the car to the garage!
its too clean!

i have cuts n bruises on my shins from tripping over all the crap in mine i love it! if i drop any paint on the floor i just move it about & let it dry *surprised*D
test spray tins on the wall, same go's if i'm spraying a car, theres oil on the floor too, sometimes i clean the oil up if it makes me smell worse than i normally do LOL & posters dita von tease on the wall next to all the oldscool cars like metros capris jags etc etc i'm so 1972 but born in 79

fair play nice mini bud in a cool-ish garage! i really like minis in yellow! hope tha car go's good for you, looks like a turbi mini that needs to be taken out & used, you'll love it then, lovely car, put your stamp on it now bud

steve , if the discs were rubbing on the 2 bumps where the bolts go on the arms ,then you can just trim these 2 bumps down a mm or 2 .and then it wont touch , its a problem that happens when you fit metro vented discs and 4 pots when using mini flanges .

another thing that might be worth noting Steve, is that the front bracket on your KAD linkage kit is fitted the wrong way round.. this could I guess be effecting the position of the selector very slightly explaining your gear selection issues.

It should be like this:

Nice motor and garage buddy8-)

Not too far off my engine spec at the moment,

How many banannas you think you will get on 12psi ?

140-150 ?

Also, I had a look on the KAD website and cant find the gear linkage kit, does anyone know how much the kit is with or with out quick shift ?
It looks like just what I need

Cheers

if you look in Steves pictures, it hasn't actually got a quick shift fitted.

The kad kit costs £200 from KAD, and comes with a new gear lever, which has the same throw as a standard lever, but is a little bit shorter.

Reason being, quickshifts are all well and good when the selector is slung on rubber bobbins under the car, but when you solid mount the selector in car like this, adding a quick shift as well makes is almost TOO tight on the gate.

Many people think it's a quick shift gear lever because it has the lift collar reverse like the latest generation quickshift does, but infact it's just a slightly shorter standard throw lever supplied with the kit.

Forgot to mention in my above post, gorgeous car steve!!!

I've considered this controller before. Only thing that concerns me is that the fuelling may be all to cock unless you run the boost that the car is setup for.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Thanks Prawn good info,

Steve / Prawn,

Do you have to solid mount the engine to use the KAD Kit ?

Mines on almost solid mounts

no need for solid mounts on my current 1380 Brocky, although that's not producing the same engine rocking torque as the forced induction engines are....

I'm running the standard bulkhead and lower steadies, as well as a top head steady and a lower LH gearbox steady, all uprated with poly bushes and genuine standard engine mounts, and it's been 100% fine for the last 3000 miles or more.

Well after lots of aggro with the car (and its not over yet )
sorted the gears all working perfectly now , renewed front discs , machined them down, new steering arms , hubs , bearings and lots more .
Its back home from Atspeed , here is the print out of the power so far

I have 2 settings of the 6 used, lowest is 7.9 psi and max for now is 11.45 psi
Going to put a few miles on to make sure there are no probs with the engine i have a slight leak from the timing cover and its smoking from cylinder no 1 , fires up no problems and with out turning over ,and revs strong .
Attspeed think it could be a sticking oil ring ? any thoughts?
got a fuse box problem to sort half the gauges are not working (rewiring needed) and tbh not my cup of tea .
A dash, wiring and new gauges are next on the list .

it is now mot`d and taxed too *happy*
